I can certainly see where an income tax reduction could help an economy. That's more money in the hands of consumers who will likely spend it, but these tax cuts are too often offtset by cuts that hurt people. That's not a good trade-off.

State vs. Federal control.
What we have in NJ is nuts. 600 districts each with a superintendent and countless administrators. We are spending about $15,000.00 per kid yet most of that money never reaches the classroom. But all the dems and libs want to do is increase spending not fixing the real problems. We have tried their way for thirty years and the results are lously. At the least the quality of education has remained the same. In a lot of cases it has actually gotten worse. And then you have what were once called the Abbot districts. Sink holes just sucking the money from the tax payers.

Faced with modest tax increases and fewer program cuts, New Jersey voters approved 80 percent of school budgets this week in an election that was largely free of last year’s turmoil.

In all, 430 of the 538 school budgets on the ballot Wednesday passed in the first test of a statewide cap on property taxes pushed through by Gov. Chris Christie.

Voters also approved separate ballot questions in 8 of 11 districts to raise additional tax revenue for, among other things, restoring freshman and middle school sports and having a full-day kindergarten.

Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the governor, said Thursday that the results of this week’s elections showed that the old ways of taxing and spending were over and that the public wanted fiscal controls in place. “What we take away from the result is that the new cap worked as intended,” Mr. Drewniak said, “keeping local spending under control and predictable.”

“Everyone had a sense that there was something in the budget for them, whether it was tax relief, or programs for students, or professional development for teachers,” Richard O’Malley, the Edison superintendent, said.

The Trail Conference is pleased that the budget proposal for 2012 announced on Feb. 15 by Gov. Chris Christie does not include new cuts to parks operating budgets.

The budget proposal put forward by Gov. Chris Christie on February 15, provides a modest increase in funds for the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), calls for an increase in parks and forestry appropriations and continues funding for several programs charged with protecting the state’s natural resources.

In addition, $6.2 million in funding for the operations of the State’s parks and forests is being restored from the state’s general fund, assuring that all state parks will remain open. Many of the 54 state parks have been operating with critically low staff levels, which the Governor has proposed increasing to better serve the more than 17 million visitors who make use of these sites annually. Capital development projects required to improve facilities at state parks would be allocated $2.6 million in Gov. Christie’s budget, helping to assure that visitors can use them safely and enjoyably.

Interesting link. But it leaves out that this is a cut of $35 million from what was provided to counties an municipalities in 2010
