There is a fear that such melting in the Arctic Circle could very well disrupt the Gulf stream and actually change long-standing weather patterns. That's one of the dangers of climate CHANGE. Like a change in rainfall patterns which would affect crop growth, or a change in the seasons which could do the same thing.

I hate to burst your bubble (cause you live so completely within it) but the current European winter storms are driven by the JET STREAM which has shifted further north than it usually resides. Has nothing to do with the Gulf Stream, but a lot to do with the solar radiation. Or lack thereof.

Just an aside for you, solar is usable on the small scale (I've had a solar setup for 24 years now) but most average people can't afford them. And, they don't return nearly what you think in the vast majority of the world. My system is near death so is hovering at around 11% efficiency. The best theoretical maximum efficiency is 28% and so far the best that has actually been attained is 24%. Take into account that the panels themselves die after 20-25 years and have to be replaced (and the panels are toxic as hell don't forget) and solar is not the perfect thing it is claimed to be.

But it's a HELL of a lot better than wind power which is a complete joke.

Certainly, you must realize that our climate is not just a result of latitude. If it was, Brittain would have had long, severe winters every year for hundreds of years.

Further more, human beings have settled in areas that have had predictable rainfall every year in order to raise crops. If and when climate change alters the weather patterns, human beings are going to have a lot more to worry about than just the physical discomfort of changing temperatures. Imagine the US Midwest bread basket as a dry, sun parched arid desert incapable of growing wheat, or corn, or barley, or soy beans, or any one of countless other crops that not only keep our food cheap, but keep us fed to the point that we don't even really think about hunger as being a realistic possibility like people used to constantly worry about hundreds of years ago. Think about what it's been like in Texas the last couple of years, but just moving north. But go ahead and make jokes if you think that will make the problem disappear.

We don't encourage it. Life is about cost/benefit ratios. The only way that renewables are able to survive is because the government has mandated their use AND given them massive amounts of taxpayer money to stay afloat. Were those two things to stop green energy would die within days.

The reason is they are nowhere near as efficient as fossil fuels. They are also MORE TOXIC to produce. Solar panels cause far more environmental damage to produce then the worst oil powered power plant.

If those issues can be rectified then the people will beat a path to the green energy door.
Until then you're stuck with corrupt companies buying the politicians so they can get the taxpayer loans and bailouts.
