Freedom of expression/speech/opinion does not grant immunity from consequences that you will face by other people.

Alot of controversy going on about the hick on TV who had an opinion and shared what he thought.

The thing is that he doesn't have a legal right to be on TV and they can can him whenever they please at a moment's notice. He's free to say what he wants as there is no problem with that and he can legally do so, but he has no legal right to stay on TV. TV broadcasters can cancel anything at a moment's notice as they only rely on programming to bring in views so they can profit from commercials.

You can say what you want, whenever you want. But you are not immune from what others will say, think, react, or do.

This is a fine example of so.

True, the execs call the shots on their programs.

If anyone wants to criticize A & E, it should be for using this to their advantage. They are likely making more money by appeasing the gay community without actually hurting the show.

More people have probably tuned in because of the controversy. You can't buy publicity like this.

Initial reports said they fired the guy, but they later said he was only suspended.

The current season is already filmed entirely, which means viewers will still see him each week. The filming for next season doesn't begin for about 6 months and by then they will say he's learned his lesson and things will be back to normal. It's akin to suspending Olympic judges for misconduct for 3 years, meaning they are reinstated well in advance of the next competition. It's a meaningless gesture meant to give the impression that they took action.

Meanwhile, the real question is what was the administration doing lately that wasn't covered while the media focused on this non-issue?

Opposing Authoritarian Ideological Fundamentalism.
.

You can disagree with or dislike something that someone says without trying to punish them for saying it.

That behavior is your decision, your choice, and it says as much about you as what they said says about them.

Of course they would, and why not, anymore than the freaky far right.

This is America.

We get to say what we want, but consequence almost always follow.

And Cracker Barrel.

The mistake the left makes is that the left never imagines that they will experience consequences.

A&E had a right to make a poor business decision. The Robertsons have a right to leave that network. Cracker Barrel had a right to make a poor business decision and a right to take corrective action.

GLAAD has a right to protest what they think is unfair and Christians have a right to protest homosexuality. But they would shit a brick if it happened.
