Shortly after Trump was first elected, Masha Gessen wrote "Surviving Autocracy".

She was a journalist that had been traveling with the leading Russian candidate the election that Putin used to consolidate power.
Most everywhere they went, the politician was prevented from speaking.

She's seen it up close and personal, and then had to leave the country because it wasn't safe.

But it's not just her, her work has a 'been there, done that' quality. There is an army of historians, scholars that study dictators and autocrats, legal scholars, etc. saying what Trump himself says...
