The trial is held in the Senate and they can only convict of acquit. There are no impeachment standards in the Senate. Clinton was Impeached by the House but was not convicted by the Senate. The Senate acquittal did not reverse his impeachment. No president has been convicted by the Senate. A President can only be remove from office after being convicted.
