What do you guys think is gonna happen here?
As a twice Trump voter I do not want a refund to be issued to FedEx. Yes, the tariffs were illegal, but FedEx should let bygones be bygones in my opinion.

These lawsuits are designed to prevent Trump from giving American voters a refund and getting them motivated to support his policies and vote in the midterms.

That is my take. Which is why Trump said "they didnt even give direction on what to do with the funds". The S.C does not want to appear to be over reaching and piss off voters when Trump says "the S.C is trying to prevent me from giving Americans a check from the tariffs". The businesses are basically greedy and playing politics.

Wait a sec....

I thought tariffs (i.e. taxes) end up being paid by the end consumer, not the huge corporations.

But now the huge corporations want the "refund"?!?

exactly what was intended to happen, fed ex wins, gets their money back only tax free as it is a court award and the socially educated will see it as yet another victory for them

ah, ya think ya figured out an answer to the question "which elections did you vote for trump in" and want me to ask it again...ok lets do this thing...which two elections?
Yes, the tariffs were illegal,
but a tax free refund is genius
but FedEx should let bygones be bygones in my opinion.
they should do it again

SCOTUS ruled on the constitutionality of the tariffs. That's it. It's not their job to lead the orange fuckup by the hand & school him on how to fix another one of his deranged pipe dreams that went swirling in the bowl.

He broke it, he can figure out how to fix it.

It's not broken. That is what you clowns don't understand.

So, he chose the wrong statue, even though I think the SCOTUS was wrong.

The tariffs will continue as before, just with other legitimized authorities.

I figure the government will say, we stole that money from you fair and square because we could, and are keeping that tax money, we charged you and your customers, whether you like it or not, so shut up and enjoy what we let you keep.
Or more diplomatic legalese words to that effect, and will fight you in the courts, using your taxes and tariff fees to fund our effort to keep your money.

I don't think they should let by gones be by gones. If someone breaks the law or assaults our constitution, they should be held accountable.

The Court asked Trump lawyers in the hearing before them last year in 2025 if they lost what would they do with the tariffs illegally collected and Trump lawyers said, "Refund it.". Trump admin has had 6 months since then to develop a system to do so....or in the least, to set the tariff money aside until this court case was settled.

(Remember, this suit was brought by a U.S. importer, not by the consumers....he, not us, gets his money back)

.... the importer has the receipts of what tariff they paid that can be presented to the Tax Man, consumers don't. The best we can hope for, is the wholesale importer will lower their product prices back down to what they were before tariffs, and then the retailer will drop the prices we pay at the register.

I don't think we will get our money back, except through perhaps special sale prices in the future.

The Supreme Court left it to the US Court of International Trade concerning the refunds. Looking at the list of 12 judges that sit in that court, I see by presidential appointment:
  • Trump: 2
  • Biden: 2
  • Obama: 4 (which includes the Chief Judge)
  • GW Bush: 2
  • Clinton: 1
  • Reagan: 1
A three-person panel of the court (comprised of appointees of Reagan, Obama, and Trump) unanimously ruled the tariffs illegal in May 2025. However, that ruling was stayed which allowed the tariffs to stay in effect until this final ruling by the Supreme Court.

Yep. They were wrong, and the SCOTUS got it wrong.

But no matter.

Now he just goes the other route, which is NOT illegal.

Yep, that's what Biden did when it came to student loan forgiveness.

I wonder how many who were gung-ho for the Tea Party and stance on lowering taxes a mere decade & half ago, favored the illegal confiscation of money from these corporate plaintiffs that sued. It sure is weird.

Trump thought he had "his" SCOTUS justices in his back pocket, which he does in the rocket docket. This time around the court had months to research the issues & he had his ass handed back to him. He figured he'd win this case & refunds wouldn't be an issue. Oops!

Now, they're going to be sued into oblivion over those refunds. And they're going to lose.

It's temporary....his new tariffs can only last 150 days and no longer than that without Congress voting on them to be extended, which will not happen.

And other than sending the stock market downward, his knee jerk temporary tariffs give him no leverage in negotiating with other countries, because they end in 150 days.....so WHY he did this is just plain insane, and it's hurting us.
