I just received this email back from our superintendent:
"President ObamaÂ’s message to students will be video streamed live from the White House government website on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. However, the district has no plans to mandate its viewing. The PresidentÂ’s message will also be archived and available for download following the live broadcast. Teachers may elect to retrieve the speech at a later time and use it where appropriate at their grade level. If a teacher does incorporate this into their future classroom instruction, an alternative assignment would be given to any student who chooses not to participate.
You will also have the opportunity to review the PresidentÂ’s broadcast at
Welcome to the White House following the live address."
No mandate to watch and a choice as to whether the children will participate in future assignments in reference to this speech.
Mandates, no. Choice, yes. WTG!
