At the time, were we newer at this world player thing? Spy agencies and all. Now those organizations are so entrenched in our government that there has to be major influence on our politicians. What You Worship as DOCuments Are Called That Because They've Been DOCtoredFDR fought a perfect strategy in WWII that minimized US deaths
1. He held back our forces in Europe and made the Soviets do most of the fighting and dying
2. He approved the Manhattan Project which created the bomb to end the war in the Pacific without US invasion
But with zero thought to the post war situation.
The postwar situation where the US emerged with the worlds strongest economy and a military Super Power?
Truman should have threatened to nuke Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad unless the Red Army went back home. Our historians and commentariat are no different from Stalin's, just more sophisticated in their lying. Also, they're shallow; so they wouldn't know the truth even if they were paid to tell us the truth.
FDR had no spy agencies...he invited Stalin's spies into his administration.
After the war, we used former Nazis who had a network of spies in Russia.
"Reinhard Gehlen (3 April 1902 – 8 June 1979) was a German general who served as chief of the Foreign Armies East (FHO) military intelligence unit during World War II, and who later became leader of the Gehlen Organization and the first president of theFederal Intelligence Service (Bundesnachrichtendienst) (BND) during the Cold War. Gehlen is considered one of the most legendary Cold War spymasters."

Founded our CIA during the Cold War.
OMFG what a dumbass.
The CIA grew out of the OSS, which was active during WW2. Where the fuck do you think Allen Dulles came from? The friggin' Easter Bunny?
OSS -- Office of Strategic Services. 1942.
