my question is simple, how we can keep our forum from paid - Olgino trolls and misinformation?

"
Facebook says it has discovered a Russian-funded campaign to promote divisive social and political messages on its network.

The company said $100,000 (£77,000) was spent on about 3,000 ads over a two-year period, ending in May 2017.

The ads did not back any political figures specifically, but instead posted on topics including immigration, race and equal rights.

Facebook said it was co-operating with a US investigation into the matter.

The advertisements directed users towards around 470 accounts that spread false information or were otherwise in breach of Facebook’s terms and conditions, the site said.

“The ads and accounts appeared to focus on amplifying divisive social and political messages across the ideological spectrum,” the company said in a blog post published on Wednesday."

What are the odds Trump does not make even so much as a single tweet about this hostile act by a hostile foreign power?

Less than 500 accounts, but how many idiots buy into it? There may be a few enemies of this country on this board, here to stir shit up, but what's sad is how many well intentioned people buy it and start spreading it. That ends up being lots lots more than 500.

Politico uncovered the Clinton campaign colluding with the Ukrainian government to spread disinformation. It's called propaganda and everyone and their mother in the media is involved in it.

Why does Russia want to get involved in America's discussions on race, taxes, healthcare, immigrants and refugees? I'll bet the accounts were spreading stuff like that, not "Vote for Trump" ads. They are being fuckheads and you shouldn't be ignoring it.

How do you stop it? You really can't.

Take for example Al Jazeera. How many know that this media outlet is state sponsored by Qatar and consequently is highly biased?

Now we're political animals for the most part on this board and try to research as many outlets as possible but Joe and Mary six pack aren't and they get their "global news" for about a big three minutes from their local television station and that's good enough for them before they get the weather, fall festivities announcements and of course the local high school football team results.

I cross reference as many as possible and am actually more prone to left leaning outlets because I know their bias but they are better for the most part at getting out actual global news. I run with BBC, Daily Mail, CBC of course, France24, Al Jazeera, Hindustan Times, Times of India and Der Spiegel.

Bottom line in media these days there will be bias and it's up to the reader or listener to cross reference. But most people don't have time between the children to school and to soccer practice.

From Propaganda to Reality

Since February, the world’s eyes have been on Ukraine as Ukrainians rebelled against rising authoritarianism in their own country and were met in return with a Russian invasion of Ukraine's southern and eastern provinces. Yale University’s Timothy Snyder is the world’s leading historian of Eastern Europe. His series of articles in the New York Review of Books has been hailed as the definitive analysis of this crisis. Join him as he clarifies the stakes.

Facebook is a colossal misinformation campaign, they would know how to uncover such things by experience.

The article makes it clear that Russian interference was humongous, and Ukraine interference paled in comparison:

The Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort’s resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine’s foe to the east, Russia. But they were far less concerted or centrally directed than Russia’s alleged hacking and dissemination of Democratic emails.

Russia’s effort was personally directed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, involved the country’s military and foreign intelligence services, according to U.S. intelligence officials. They reportedly briefed Trump last week on the possibility that Russian operatives might have compromising information on the president-elect. And at a Senate hearing last week on the hacking, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said “I don't think we've ever encountered a more aggressive or direct campaign to interfere in our election process than we've seen in this case.”

There’s little evidence of such a top-down effort by Ukraine. Longtime observers suggest that the rampant corruption, factionalism and economic struggles plaguing the country — not to mention its ongoing strife with Russia — would render it unable to pull off an ambitious covert interference campaign in another country’s election. And President Petro Poroshenko’s administration, along with the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, insists that Ukraine stayed neutral in the race.

Report Alleges DNC Consultant Involved in Presidential Election Worked with Ukraine

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley wrote to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein raising concerns over yet another instance of deficient enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) as it relates to the 2016 presidential election.

Media reports suggest that Ukrainian “political leadership” opposed the candidacy of Donald Trump for president of the United States and worked with a Democratic National Committee consultant to undermine his campaign. This consultant allegedly had various meetings with Ukrainian government officials, including embassy staff, to coordinate the dissemination of incriminating information about Trump campaign officials.

It appears that this consultant was operating to advance the interests of both the Democratic National Committee, the Clinton campaign, and a foreign government, which would have required registration under FARA.

In his letter, Grassley requests information on any actions taken by the Justice Department pursuant to FARA in this case, the differences between this case and similar cases in which the Justice Department required registration and whether the Department is investigating links and coordination between the Ukrainian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Hillary Clinton or the Democratic National Committee.

On July 26, the Judiciary Committee will convene a hearing to examine enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act and attempts to influence U.S. elections.
