Somewhere along the way the country threw out Democracy in favor of Capitalism. If ever two words when put together formed the perfect oxymoron, it would be those two. By definition they are diametrically opposed.
opposed???? You are deeply confused. Milton Friedmans book was called "capitalism and freedom."
democracy is when the people vote, capitalism is when the people vote on what to buy and at what price.
Socialism is when the government liberals take all the power and make all the decisions while the people are powerless.
While We the People struggle to keep a roof over our heads and our jobs, poor old Newt complains that he's only worth 2 or 3 million. Meanwhile Romney jokes about pink slips and refuses to produce his Tax Returns. And adding insult to injury the jokers prioritize gay marriage and abortion over the impending collapse of this country.
Democrats and Republicans, singularly and collective, have provided corporate America with the keys to the kingdom and
carte blanche to do as its pleases. Those who most harmed this nation were rewarded with bail out billions provided by Middle Class tax dollars. The reason we were told was that by keeping these criminals in business it would mean jobs. Of course what they forgot to mention was if anyone wanted one of them we'd have to relocate to a foreign country.
The Bill of Rights were written as clarification and in support of the intent of the Constitution. The rights provided therein not only guarantee each American freedom, but perhaps more importantly they protect and give recourse to the actions of an indifferent powerful institution such as the Federal Government.
It is inspiring to see that many have taken the opportunity to exercise one of their First Amendment rights. The contents of that Amendment must have been of paramount importance to the founders as it is the first.
Just as was done during the Viet Nam war protests, the government once again takes the position that it is never wrong and as such the People do not have the right to protest, much less peacefully assemble on property bought and paid for by their taxes. Further it is suggested those who protest what the government is doing are the enemy, and even worse Anarchists. The government then feels it has the right to exercise its full power to thwart the protesters by any means possible.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.[/QUOTE]
