EXCELLENT! Department of Education may be axed!

...

Unlike you, l get out in the actual real world and deal with people.

Doesn't get more real than my world, and I'm quite sure I deal with more people every day than you do in a month.

What would you have said if we had decided to not educate you or perhaps one of your children that had some issues?

The question would be....why would you decide that ?

School seems to be a one-size-fits-all, and I am not sure that has been successful.

What other nations do not have some sort of centralized Department of Education? Just wondering.

She didn't mention what those particular strings are. Most of the federal rules are regarding spending Title I funds and special education funds which are the only federal funding contributions. Another lesser-known rule is that the federal government reimburses the cost of the education for government employees that attend local schools. When I was in the military, I completed a form every year that was turned into my kid's school that I was military and assigned to a facility in the local area. I did this in Rhode Island, Virginia, and Florida. When I worked for the US government (DoD) I did the same in Kentucky.

There is no agenda. This has been that way for decades.

Most people confuse funding issues with things like Common Core standards being promoted by the Education department back in early 200O, but it was only offered as additional funding to implement those standards. If the state chose not to use them, there was no penalty. Many states refused the funds and lost nothing because they had no costs to implement them.

NCLB and Common Core and pretty good reasons to consider the role of the dept of education.

They were failures.

A dept of education might have use, but not in it's current form.

And I don't think "standardized" testing makes sense given how political everything is.

DOE will not be eliminated.

I would like to see it streamlined.

You have to remember, NCLB was teddy Kennedy's baby, despite GWB's cooperation.

There was nothing wrong with Common Core except know-nothings attacked it as something it wasn't. The public doesn't even realize that it still exists in most states with only a name change and few minor tweaks to customize it. Remember, Common Core was created by a group of red state governors led by Jeb Bush.

I also buy things at stores...Hand $5.06 to a teenage cashier for something that costs $4.81 and watch their eyes gloss over and smoke blow out their ears.

Yeah, don't believe your own lying eyes and ears!
In your made up scenario, they will just push $5.06 into the cash register and then give you back a quarter because it will calculate your change, so they don't have to struggle with your testing. Besides, who pays cash for anything anymore and still worries about the change? Just give them a $5 and let it go! You are about 10 years out of date.

How many curricula have you read - ever? You are so tied to a preconceived conclusion that you just can't let it go no matter how many times you are corrected. Unclench.
Dumbass I have taught at the Graduate level. There are a lot of educators here.

You want to really learn how it was in the old days, go find an old school book. One from the 1920's or '30's.

Look at just how pathetic modern teaching has become.

What educators who have never seen any of that media-driven hysterical bullshit in 30 years of teaching claim. People whose "experience" is limited to Googling sensationalist stories on the internet like to claim what the ignorant post and repost here endlessly.
I am an educator too. Silly boy. I was teaching classes before you were born.

I don't think most people know what standardized testing means, including you (unfortunately and sorry for being blunt!)

You taught educated students who are paying their own way usually. They want to be there. That's like the difference in an Easy-bake oven and a nuclear reactor. Go teach 6th graders and then you might have some experience.

Yes, that is true. But I also taught undergrad as well. Never lower grades, it was always college level, you are correct.

But it is my experience that kids will enjoy school, and want to attend school, if they are engaged. The private schools are examples of that. Why are they so much more successful, with overall less money spent per student?

Yet you vote (D) religiously

The hypocrisy is mind boggling
You have no clue to "Who I voted for"
Which is a good point.

Should we be attempting to educate everyone ? Does not seem to work to well.

But I appreciate your insights.
Imagine your disgust when the school tells you that your LOW IQ son can't attend the school because ........ well he is just to stupid and not worth our time.....take him home and deal with him yourself.
