It's the first place wounded troops from battlefields in Afghanistan and the Middle East are evacuated to. Victims of terrorist bombings, victims of terrorist attacks are treated there. When the hostages in Iran were freed, they too were taken to Ramstein. There are U.S. Army bases in the surrounding countryside that supply Ramstein and other U.S. Army hospital and medical facilities.

There are currently 30,000 u.S. Army personnel stationed in Germany. Should they, the people who are serving us and our medical facilities be brought home out of a fit of Trumpian pique? Isn't it prudent to stop and think before issuing a tweet because The Donald failed to read all his briefing memos on the situation?

How is Germany now a strategic problem? Germany has been a trusted ally since 1946. What country would be "more friendly" than Germany?

Germany did not have much say in 1946 about their destiny... There should be statues of Secretary of State George Marshall in every major European metropolis... Without the Marshall Plan Germany would not exist… The Morgenthau Plan was to make farmers of the German people...

When that style translates itself into policy, I get nervous. I don't trust that Trump is acting in the best interests of the United States. I think he is ultimately motivated to act in the best interests of Donald Trump. I think he is being extorted by, or in a quid pro quo relationship with Russia.

I don't understand the motives of dissing our allies, starting trade wars and causing problems where no problem exists. Canada is not a security threat. Kim Jung Un is not an honorable man and great leader. Pitin is not "fine".

So, as Trump's style slithers its way into policy, there is plenty to consider in the long run. But I don't think long run thinking is in Trump's nature. Rather his nature is to close the sale, get the signatures on the paperwork and then brag about being a "winner".
