Enough with the Trump tariffs are destroying the economy threads

Trump is fucking up this country and we are going to put that on blast.
/----/ Here's what you voted for, and what Trump is fixing, much to your chagrin.

Votto, can you further explain your statement? Respectfully, Supposn

Votto, unless a nation experiences otherwise effectively full-employment, annual trade deficits are always net detrimental to their nation'seconomies. They are particularly detrimental to their nation's numbers of jobs.
Rather than tariffs or pure free trade, the superior Import Certificates,(ICs) trade policy would prevent our chronic annual trade deficits.

To any extent of imported goods' price increases reflecting more than federal fees to fund our government's direct expenditure's due to ICpolicy, a USA IC policy would serve as indirect but effective price subsidy for USA's exported goods.

Nothing wrong with tariffs if done selectively in certain sectors. ...

Rightwinger, your chosen pen-name implies you somewhat politically lean toward conservatism? I would suppose a conservative to be generally opposed to government determination of winners and losers? You posted, “Nothing wrong with tariffs if done selectively in certain sectors”. I would suppose from a conservationist's viewpoint, “selectively in certain sectors” is among the tariffs' wrong attributes.

Put tariffs uponaluminum, and lesser or no tariff on products fabricated from aluminum? You want to protect or encourage USA'saluminum producers, while increasing costs to USA manufacturers that fabricate aluminum products? USA's aluminum producers should be more dependent upon foreign customers, while the tariffs undermine USA manufacturers?

Rather than tariffs or pure free trade, the superior Import Certificates,(ICs) trade policy would prevent our chronic annual trade deficits. IC policy is a general policy, treating all globally traded goods in a similar manner.

government jobs are not helpful since they are a net loss on the country. You should educate yourself on where the money comes from to support those jobs. Hilarious how little to nothing demofks know about our country they think they know.

what didn't help global economies is the Houthis who control the Red Sea canal. Hmmmmm, creepy Joe allowed it to happen.

JC456, early in Octber-2023 a U. S. aircraft carrier was dispatche to the Eastern Medditerainian region. A taveling U.S. aircraft carrier is always accompanied by a U.S. protective fleet of other military vessels. The first military action involving that Red Sea task force, occurred on October 19, 2023; U.S. Forces intercepted three cruise missiles and eight drones launched from Yemen by Houthi militants.

These efforts all began within the Biden administration. Despite President Trump's treats and insults aimed at our allies, our millitary and state departments' are still cooperating to protect shipping in and out of the Red sea.

I don't perceive the point of your posted response to my message. There's been no change in the direction or extent of U.S. policies in regard to protecting shipping in the Red Sea. You address your response to my post, but nothing in your post is germane to comparitve analysis of various proposals for USA's international trade policies.

JC456, please explain your relating “government jobs” with our nation's foreign trade policy. That's a long and less than relevant stretch. Respectfully, Supposn

Is that why the US has had much better growth than Germany over the last few decades?

Because Germany has a large trade surplus and we have a large trade deficit?

Japan too?

Back up your theory with some data.

Some real attempt to cope with the stupidity of Trump here.

Every country has tariffs, but for a long time now, the total burden of tariffs is a few percent.

Throwing 25% or more tariffs on everything is not what we’ve been doing and we don’t even know why he’s doing it.

Honestly, the biggest thing the economy is dealing with is having no idea what the plan here. Businesses and consumers are going to hold back in uncertain times. That leads to problems.
Canada had a 200% tariff of dairy coming from the U.S. Learn before posting. In 2023 the U.S. incurred a 64.3 billion deficit in trading with Canada. In 2024 it was 63.3 billion.

So we have a $200 billion trade deficit because of milk tariffs? You think we would sell Canada $200 billion of milk?

So Canada dairy doesn't count? I gave you an example of tariffs higher than 25%. Did you forget your statement?

One example. One tariff. It’s the same (and only) example everyone gives, including Trump.

You know why we buy more Canadian goods than Canadians buy American goods?

Because we are way richer than them.

Trump mostly let states do their own thing.

Of all places, the country of Sweden stood alone and continued life as normal as they could, and they were just fine.
Trump didn't want the blame, so he deferred when he should have lead the Nation.
He took the cowardly way, and blamed everyone but himself.

"No, I don't take ANY responsibility at ALL." djt

Why didn't trump LEAD and do what Sweden did?
You got an answer for this question?

Except, it was all a lie!

Is there one country who does not employ tariffs?

No, yet we are all led to believe that Trump is destroying the world economy with his tariffs via Legacy media.

Are tariffs good for the economy? Not really, because it is just a tax and taxes never help an economy, which is why Trump and the GOP need to follow his tariffs with tax breaks for Americans to help improve the economy.

Tariffs are simply economic warfare between countries that everyone does.

In fact, Joe Biden even kept some of Trump's original tariffs when he took office. In fact, Joe Biden increased them.

Am I sold on tariffs? Not really, IO am sold on taxes about as much as I am tariffs, but like taxes they are there to feed the bureaucracy as world bureaucracies of various countries go to war with each other.

Now what really hurt the world economy was the Left shutting down the entire world economy while Joe Biden was in power, something no one will ever own.
/----/ More winning:
SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea's Hyundai is set to announce a $20 billion investment in the United States, including a $5 billion steel plant in Louisiana, CNBC reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The plant, which would require the hiring of around 1,500 employees, will produce next-generation steel that will be used at the company's two U.S. auto plants that manufacture electric vehicles.
