Every country has tariffs, but for a long time now, the total burden of tariffs is a few percent.

Throwing 25% or more tariffs on everything is not what we’ve been doing and we don’t even know why he’s doing it.

Honestly, the biggest thing the economy is dealing with is having no idea what the plan here. Businesses and consumers are going to hold back in uncertain times. That leads to problems.

Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer on Sunday praised President Trump for slapping tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese products and said he urged the chief executive to do this “three weeks ago.”

“Not only do they steal our intellectual property, they keep our good companies out, and say the only way you’re going to be able to sell your American products in China … is if you come to China, make them there, and give us the techniques and intellectual property,” the New York lawmaker told John Catsimatidis on his AM-970 radio show.

The Senate minority leader said he urged Trump to hit China with the penalties because the US would eventually prevail in any trade war.

“It’s going to take a little bit of toughness at the beginning. China will bark back. But they need us more than we need them — President Trump is right about that — and we should be strong. So I thought what he did on China is right,” Schumer said.
