End the shutdown, do this deal, extend the ACA subsidy, but pay for it by approving the $200b in DOGE savings. (Poll)

Should there be a deal to keep the ACA subsidies & pay for them with the DOGE savings?

No fricken way, the ACA should not be subsidized at all. DOGE savings should be used to cut the national deficit.
But, if we need 60 votes to realize that $200b DOGE savings they won't happen. Half a loaf?

Then they should pay it from the DNC's coffers, not ours.
How much did the DNC spend on Kamala? They could have gave away all of that money to the foreigners. They want to have their cake and eat it too.
I'm not an expert in healthcare insurance like the ACA or Medicaid. I've always had employer coverage.

However, MTG, who is a hard nosed Republican, thinks that the ACA should be saved.

I don't know what happens if the subsidies end, the ACA fails, and all the uninsured people use Medicaid?????

Would the subsidies be cheaper?

Not all the uninsured people qualify for Medicaid, obviously.

It's already means tested, obviously.
the cap was removed, it needs to be put back if the subsidy is kept.

They don't make it clear, but the DOGE savings are already in place I am pretty sure? Over $200B in improved efficecency, voided contracts and yes it includes Billions in DOD (a stain yesterday says they don't touch Military).

EXAMPLES:
Over the last 5 days, agencies terminated 477 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $3.4B and savings of $1.1B, including two @USDA consulting contracts: (1) $280k for “Asia Pacific - Vietnam Ranger Training Curriculum Development Consultants”; and (2)

Great work by @USGSA securing another strong OneGov deal, saving 75% off currently paid prices for Box SAAS services.
**those do not appear to be "pending" There are hundreds of examples like that. Some nearing $10B in "savings".

Over the last 5 days, agencies terminated 122 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $1.4B and savings of $388M, including a $1.17M NSF consulting contract for “merit review experience study”, and a $523k DoE facilities services contract for “energy

We are working to upload all of our receipts in a digestible and transparent manner consistent with applicable rules and regulations. To get started, listed below are a subset of contract, grant, and lease cancellations, representing ~30% of total savings.

The contracts listed below have been posted publicly on fpds.gov. FPDS posting of the contract termination notices can have up to a 1 month lag. There may be discrepencies between FPDS / USAspending and the posted numbers, the latter of which originate directly from agency contracting and grant officials.

I am not sure but I think they have many other proposals that rotten Congress is sitting on. Perhaps because "dirty Congress" did not think of it? Don't like to be upstaged by hi-tech kids?
My understanding is that if spending was authorized by congress it can't be cut by EO. It needs a "rescission" bill.

So here are examples of wasteful spending that we need congress to "claw-back"

The Trump shutdown continues unabated. There are very few DOGE savings the the thread is a non-starter.

I disagree, DOGE says $214b

More waste to be clawed-back:

NO. The one y deal should be the clean CR that passed the house last month. Take it or leave it.

Keep the government shut down until Kanuary 20, 2029 if necessary (or 2033/2037 if Republicans keep winning the White House).

You have a point, although if we do see that DOGE savings, democrats and some republicans will want to flush it down a different toilet.

I voted other because

1. we need to stop the subsidies from being used for unintended purposes.

2. we will probably get most of the DOGE cuts anyway so there is nothing there to actually bargain with.

3. I do like the idea of we pass all appropriation bills and maybe some other stuff too in exchange for keeping most of the subsidies that are truly needed
What unintended ppurposes?

I imagine here district has many dirt poor people who voted for her. Some states will not approve adult Medicaid apps unless disabled or a pregnant woman.

How about that deal?

Democrats want to keep the ACA subsidy. Does it cost $150b a year or $35b a year??

Republicans want to save $200b in DOGE savings

So lets make a deal. Keep the subsidy, but do the DOGE cuts, AND pass all 12 appropriations bills and the clean CR.

$214b potential saving
The Republicans would be insane to even entertain this idea, the moment they do they've just shown that they can be held hostage by the Democrats over complete nonsense. These were COVID emergency subsidies for a bill that was sold as MAKING HEALTH INSURANCE MORE AFFORDABLE, the subsidies clearly demonstrate that the ACA boondoggle only works by making it more expensive for the people that actually contribute, not to mention the fact that it was Democrats that set the expiration date in the first place.

Nuke the filibuster for funding CR's and Appropriations Bills and end this nonsense once and for all

--OR--

Option B. Keep the shutdown going and have Russ Vought let go of 50% of the Executive Branches workforce.

Personally I prefer option B.
