End Of The Line For The Pittsburgh Steelers?

Rogers? Are you crazy? The guys a cancer, a cancer at GB, a fruitcake, never coached and never should. He should not even be a 41 yr old pretend QB. Making a mockery of the NFL. So what, he can still throw the ball acuurate at times. That's it?. Big deal. 1000s' can stand there and throw if its a clean pocket. He's selling snake oil. Get out why you can.

Try Howard. Get a new smarter coach now. I now agree with the Tomlin haters. He was a disaster. Given loaded lineups, getting nothing out of it.

Don't get snother tired old joke like Harbaugh or McCarthy for the love of God!

I think I heard a stat that game was the lowest scoring playoff game Rodgers had ever QBed in.

The last sack, Rodgers laid there, lost the ball and Houston ran it in for a TD. It was after that Rodgers threw that bad ball into triple coverage that was picked and ran back for another 6. And Aaron did not look like he really wanted to hit the defender trying to stop him from scoring.

I have to believe that if Tomlin as a lowly defensive player (I never heard of the guy before until the Steelers hired him) can lead the team as a good coach for 19 years that Rodgers could do an even better job. Rodgers has to have a better offensive understanding and general knowledge of the game, and he has apparently shown a lot of leadership on the team, and the players like, respect, trust and follow him.

What more could Pittsburgh hope for or want in a coach?

If the Rooneys did not realize that or consider that in hiring Rodgers for the team, at both his and Tomlin's points of their careers, they are stupid. Pittsburgh is sitting on gold.
probably boils down to does he like the town, his wife and any kids he might still have at home?

anybody that plays a sport knows they can be traded and have to pack up to move to a new city, that's part of it

Rogers? Are you crazy? The guys a cancer, a fruitcake,
I listened to a lot of his interviews with the Steelers and he seemed pretty grounded to me. In fact, several of the Steelers players admitted that they didn't think they'd even like him until he showed up and they got to know him and thought he was great.

never coached and never should.
Did Tomlin ever coach before he came to Pittsburgh?

I'm interested to see Howard play. A lot of people like him but he got injured in the preseason.
They could always try Rodgers out as coach and if he doesn't work out or if they find a superstar, they could always switch. I'm just saying that they need a new QB already and unless they find a golden replacement for Tomlin, they could still consider Rodgers.

But none of this matters if Rodgers himself isn't interested in the job.

As to Tomlin, many times last year, other teams said they saw right through the Steeler's game strategy like tissue, and they got womped by a team who they expressly invested heavily in to customize their defense to beat.

Tomlin was an OC somewhere before? MINN?

Rogers was a problem at GB. Demanding to "be consulted" because Brady or others opinions were valued. He played phony hold out or retirement many times leaving GB holding the bag. He is a problem everywhere.

They lost to SF at GB with him driving the bus scoring 10pts? 13pts?. He didn't run it in late once in another lost playoff game, looked wide open threw a ridiculous line drive pass into traffic. He was old, one dimentional. Get out why you can.

I was wrong. TOMLIN was defense coaching.

In 2001, he transitioned to the NFL as the defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he remained until 2005.

In 2006, Tomlin was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, marking his only coordinator role before becoming a head coach. He held this position for just one season before being named head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers in January 2007.

right, 1 freaking year as DC and boom he's got the chops to be HC at 34 or something?
he inherited a good team and they won, after that he never won a damn thing

he fit the rooney rule, we need more black coaches, experience does not matter, skin color does

That is exactly what DEI is, 1 SB in 19 years.........all other seasons, barely makes he playoffs, exit fast

Some old-tme tired good Ole boy coaching network does OK to stabilize and improve an existing team. Sean Peyto cleaned up DEN by the end of the first season?

Maybe the over-rated tired old BALT Harbaugh could help NYG? I'm probably wrong on him.

I'm ASSuming an ideal world where 40 yr old OC or DC (see CHI & SEA) get fast improvements.

Bruh, I do not like Rodgers but acting like he's not in the top 32 humans on the planet to play QB is a crazy take. Even at 41.

They tout Tomlin as some historic coach, but that is only because the Steelers keep coaches until they are moldy. The reality is that if Tomlin can be great with just 1 year of minor coaching under his belt then Rodgers certainly could with no coaching experience. After all, Rodgers was already coaching the Steelers this year getting up to play, something Tomlin should have been doing.

Yep, the Rooney Rule, that you must interview minority coaches just because they are minorities and not based on qualification and let the minorities fall where their qualifications lay. The implication here is that if you don't interview or hire a minority, it must be due to your racism instead of the fact that there were better candidates.

?

Noll outside the org. D Coordinator/RB coach Baltimore Colts.

Cowher outside the org. D Coordinator KC

Tomlin outside the org D Coordinator Minneapolis.

Their OC's have typically not be internal hires, and most of their DC's havent either. To include the current OC and DC.

Where is this narrative that the Steelers only hire from within coming from?

Rodgers is not qualified to be a HC.

You are required to interview 1 minority coach. It says nothing about hiring anyone.

We're in a new age where it's permissible to say just about anything, regardless of facts! It starts at the top w/ Trump! He tells us the economy is flourishing & inflation is down! We're supposed to believe it b/c he said it w/ convcition! The news is the same way! Things used to need confirmation, but innuendo is enuf to transmit around the world w/ impunity! Thanks to AI, IDK what to believe! I saw something about Barron Trump having another mother's name on his birth certificate! King Charles has formally decided to sue Meghan Markle! It's presented as something real, but getting harder & harder to tell what's true or not! Liars are now in training from childhood! :stir::cool::(

Maybe the over-rated tired old BALT Harbaugh could help NYG? I'm probably wrong on him.
As an aside, all three Steeler coaches (Noll, Cowher, Tomlin) have all been hired in their middle/late 30s--- Rodgers is 42.

Look at Coach Bellichick--- when Brady was playing at NE, everyone debated who made the Pats great? Was it Brady himself or was it Bellichick's brilliance? Well, Brady left and the Pats fell apart.

And now here they are great again w/o Bellichick. Yet someone snapped up Bellichick (I thought he was a good coach anyway, better than Tomlin) so likewise I'm sure that Harbaugh still has some good years left in him if HE wants to play them.

That policy helps them hire cheap and weed out people not willing to work cheap. Tomlin paid his assistant coaches squat. All of the power, decisions and money stayed with him. Not one of his coaches were ever picked up to be HC by any other team.

And I'm tired of the Steeler's incestuous relationships. They have Cam Hayward and his brother. They used to have TJ Watt and another Watt. They hire ex-Steelers (why I think they could hire Rodgers as new HC). All signs of a team running on fumes trying to limit expenditure while trying to compete with big city teams.

Pittsburgh is so small a city, the entire town (scenic as it is) fits on a postcard.

But inflation IS down, food prices are down an average of about 2% and dropping, and the economy is growing. We are actually entering a trade surplus. Don't take Trump's word, check it out for yourself.

//*Well not the top guy but they would prefer. Sort of correct. *//

Mike Tomlin has continued the Steelers' long-standing tradition of promoting coaches from within, a practice deeply rooted in the franchise's history. Under Tomlin, the team promoted Eddie Faulkner, the interim offensive coordinator, following the 2023 season—marking the third consecutive coordinator hired with no prior NFL experience outside Pittsburgh. This follows a pattern established by previous coaches like Bill Cowher, who promoted Mike Mularkey and Ken Whisenhunt from within, and Chuck Noll, who elevated Tom Moore and Bud Carson to key roles.

The Steelers' preference for internal promotions dates back to the 1960s, with Buster Ramsey being the first defensive coordinator, hired in 1962. The team has consistently prioritized developing talent from within its own staff, a philosophy that has shaped the franchise’s culture of stability and continuity. This approach was also evident when Dick LeBeau, a long-time assistant, was retained as defensive coordinator after Tomlin’s hiring in 2007, and later replaced by Keith Butler, another internal hire.

This tradition reflects the Steelers’ broader commitment to building a cohesive, disciplined organization—where leadership roles are earned through loyalty, experience, and deep familiarity with the team’s system.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now conducting their first head coaching search since 2007 following Mike Tomlin’s departure after 19 seasons. While no internal promotion has been confirmed, several current Steelers coaches are being discussed as potential candidates.

Arthur Smith, the team’s offensive coordinator, is a top internal contender. He has led the Steelers’ offense since 2024 and previously served as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2021 to 2023. Smith has already interviewed for the Tennessee Titans' head coaching job and is widely respected for his offensive schemes and quarterback development.

Eddie Faulkner, the team’s co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach, is another internal name gaining attention. He has been with the Steelers since 2017 and played a key role in developing Najee Harris into a four-time 1,000-yard rusher. Faulkner was promoted to co-offensive coordinator after Matt Canada’s midseason firing in 2023 and praised by Tomlin for his organizational skills.

Other internal candidates include Teryl Austin, the defensive coordinator, and Nate Scheelhaase, the Rams’ passing game coordinator, though the latter is not currently with the Steelers.

Despite the strong case for continuity, the Steelers have historically favored young, outside hires—most notably Tomlin at 34 in 2007. The team is now interviewing external candidates, including Chris Shula (Rams DC), Jesse Minter (Chargers DC), and Brian Flores (Vikings DC), with the final decision expected to reflect a mix of experience, youth, and alignment with the franchise’s long-term vision.

1. None of those are head coaches

2. Would you like a list of all the OCs and DCs who weren’t promoted from within? We can start with tjlhe current OC and DC

How much do you want to bet they don’t hire someone who’s currently in the building?
