On April 2nd we predicted that Donald Trump would have 953 delegates as of today (needing only 284 delegates for the nomination) and that Cruz would have 550 delegates as of today (needing 687 to win the nomination).

We also predicted that only 634 delegates would remain and therefore Cruz would need more delegates than would be available.

Ted Cruz is eliminated.
It is clear that Cruz was eliminated tonight.
It is not clear yet on how devastating the final numbers will be for Ted Cruz.

After winning all five primaries tonight — Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania — Donald Trump has 945 delegates so far.

Ted Cruz finished third in Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware and Rhode Island.

There are fewer delegates remaining than we originally projected because the delegates in Wyoming, Colorado and North Dakota were allocated in shady voter-less elections after April 2nd.

After tonight’s primaries Cruz has — 559 delegates – He did not win a single delegate tonight...

You people still haven't learned that the RNC controls who gets the nomination. Cruz is FAR from mathematically eliminated.

Paul,

Although the numbers no longer exist for Ted to get 1237 on the first ballot, the numbers do not say that Donald Trump has 1237 yet. If Donald can't get to 1237 before the 7th of June, then Ted and unfortunately John both have a legitimate reason to stay in. If you look at the numbers. These are as close as I can get with results still coming in, Trump has won ~ 42% of the "popular" vote up to this point, the remaining candidates that are still in the race have received over ~ 58% of the popular vote.

When you compare the raw % of popular vote to delegates that have been awarded to this point it shows like this 42% vote = 52% of delegates. Ted Cruz has received ~29% of the votes cast, and has just over 30% of the delegates. So explain to me how the system is rigged...

My entire problem with this whole scenario that Trump continues to spout off about is that the system is rigged. No, it's not, the rules were there since October and before, and I don't here Trump whining about winning over 90% of the delegates tonight even though presumably he is in the neighborhood of 60% of the vote that was cast over all five states tonight.

Unfortunately, most of what I am saying doesn't matter, because unlike a large percentage of people in the country that think we live in a democracy, I know that we live in a representative REPUBLIC, what this means is that the voice of the people is transmitted via primaries or caucuses or county/state conventions to the delegates. Does this equate to a 100% accurate representation of the entire populous, no it does not, however, on the whole it does represent the overall majority of people that have a voice. Until such time as Trump gets 1237 bound delegates, be it before the end of June 7th or on the first ballot at the convention this is still a 2.25 man race.

I welcome your feedback as well as others, unfortunately I can't have these conversations with my wife, she gets tired of my continued discussion of politics. Which is why I have come here. I look forward to some educated discussion about the issues at hand.

Scott

He can't win the Nomination without a brokered convention but he can make sure Trump does not get the magic number he need to win either!

So you better hope Trump get that magic number because close will not count this time!

The Republican party could potentially throw a total curve ball, and decide to pick a candidate that isn't Trump, Cruz, or Kasich. What if they talked Bloomberg into it?

Cruz is all done. It was an embarrassing night for him. He should now just bow out gracefully.

He's finished. If he wants to be a classless asshole and continue, than so be it i guess. But he is all done.

Cruz had a very embarrassing showing tonight. He can't and won't win. The People have spoken on that.

I am not a Republican, I am a conservative, not a Trumpeteer or a Cruzunatic.

These are only my observations-

It appears obvious that this is Tumps nomination. More and more GOPers will likely fall in line behind DT to be on the winning side and join the new power base of the party. They are politicians and they will do what's is in their best political interest, see Christy and Carson, more will follow. Kasish falling in line may be the final death knell for Cruz, and what is left of the old guard of the RNC.

Trump has picked off the establishment canidates one by one, and in tonight's acceptance speech he started fixing his sights on Hillary, she has no idea what being in a fight with Donny is liked. She will end looking worse than poor Marco.

Trump has so many paths to the White House. He even said nice things about ole Bernie tonight. If Trump brings Bern into his camp, Hillary will only have a bunch of angry women and their husbands showing up to her whistle stops. She will have to give speeches naked to get anybody to pay attention to her.

I never saw this coming, but when it's obvious, it's obvious.

Yo, Typical Hater!!! It was expected that Trump would win those Socialist States! Do your homework son, before the World leaves you behind!!!

I find it very humorous that Cruz actually thinks he could win at Convention.. I mean, seriously?

The Republican party could potentially throw a total curve ball, and decide to pick a candidate that isn't Trump, Cruz, or Kasich. What if they talked Bloomberg into it?

That won't happen. The chairman of the RNC has already ruled that out. The nominee will be one of the three active candidates.

When has that ever mattered? It's Trump. Cruz is in full desperation mode, when was the last time a canidate announced his VEEP when he has been eliminated from winning the nomination? The longer he stays in the further he damages his already soiled brand.

Swim expert is on it- even the RNC has shot down that trial balloon. That's why they are so desperate for Cruz, but alas, it's too little too late. It's done, Trumps the nominee.
