Dove ‘Regrets’ Soap Ad Showing Black Woman Turning Into White Woman
“I really would like to know who exactly had a seat at the table making this decision.”

Let me get this straight, if black women use Dove soap, we will turn white afterwards?

Because all black women, want a nice round ass, full lips, beautiful tanned skin and a black man in their bed....wait a minute, isn't that what white mops want...perhaps Dove should do a reversal!!

Won't ever ever ever purchase any of thier products again...ladies of color are you listening?
FWIW, Dove is a brand owned by Unilever. One can find all their products here: Brands.

Dove ‘Regrets’ Soap Ad Showing Black Woman Turning Into White Woman

That's not all Dove should regret, but frankly, it's questionable whether Unilever regrets anything having to do with that ad. After all, people and organizations who/that regret their mistakes don't repeat them. To blunder, apologize for it and then again do the same thing is tantamount to a skunk apologizing for stinking even though its stink is a critical element to its survival.

Dove is a consumer goods company and among their distinctive competencies and key success factors is supposed to be keen awareness and understanding of how consumers will respond to messages ranging from overt to subtle and everything in between. It really strains credulity to think that Unilever/Dove regrets posting that ad because they've before conjured the same subtext. [1]

Some might say the ad above and the one in the OP portray "unintentionally" racist themes. I find that hard to believe given that the ad came from one of the world's leading companies the very lifeblood of which depends on "getting" stuff like that and triggering people's emotions and thoughts to generate products sales. That is what B-to-C marketing is, and nobody understands that stuff better than do consumer goods producers like Unilever, Beatrice, Proctor and Gamble, etc.

One of the key things they know well is that the imagery of their ad reaches the "pre-conscious processing of images, without stimulating conscious scrutiny and evaluation." In other words, they are well aware that their ad's acknowledges the racial bias (if not overt racism) present in our culture and uses it as one of several levers in the ad, all aimed at catalyzing a sale or sense of approbation among consumers. Accordingly and at the very least, Unilever can be said to be among the chorus of voices perpetuating racial bias. At worst, it may indeed be an organization that is plainly run by racists and is signaling as much.

Note:
  1. Though subliminal advertising in television and radio has been banned, in print it has not. That it hasn't been banned doesn't mean it isn't there and working as intended. And, no, nobody thinks subliminal messaging will unilaterally effect behavior; it's just one more weapon in the arsenal producers/marketers use to spur purchases and establish positive feelings for a brand/product even though a given consumer may not ever buy it.

For example, there is no counting the number of folks who have favorable views of products they never have and never will ever even come near let alone own and thereby have any cogent basis for their having the positive stance they do regarding the product. As specific examples:
-- People who are allergic to peanut butter, yet would buy, say, Skippy instead of Jif or the store brand.
-- People who prefer Ferraris to Porsches, though they'll never buy or ride in either car.
-- People who don't like shellfish, but who think "seller X" has better shellfish than "seller Y."

    Additional references:

“I really would like to know who exactly had a seat at the table making this decision.”

Absolutely. That ad raises a whole host of questions, particularly as it's not the first time Dove/Unilever has used exactly that theme. Among the questions that ad raises:
  • How many people did that ad go past before it was published?
  • How did someone (several people? a cadre of people?) who failed to catch the offensiveness of that message get hired?
  • Does Unilever truly give a damn?

They are after all the makers of "Fair & Lovely," which is skin lightening product. (I presume they have competitors who make similar products. I don't know if Unilever markets Fair & Lovely in the U.S., but I am aware that one can buy it in the U.S.)

Unilever also produces an app under their Vaseline brand that whitens one's Facebook profile pics.
