Ostensibly, or maybe not, Unilever doesn't think that, for were that the true message they were conveying, there'd be nothing to apologize for, and yet they have apologized. After all, there's no point in apologizing for wholesome, equitable, and sincere thoughts and notions.

I agree, and that's what really is amazing about this story. The company should have known in America 2017, that the black community would have seen something completely different than their intent, and that there would be outrage.
Maybe the lesson here is simply to exclude a person of color altogether from their advertising.

If we were ever to seriously unite as a race as we've done many many times in the past on issues that directly effect our lives and communities, they'd give us the long over due respect we've not only earned but deserve. Obama was the litmus test of that unity....they witnessed first hand our detachment in defending him when he was constantly attacked by the white right wing...we did nothing, said noting and they took notes, voted in Trump and is hell fire bent on keeping us divided and keeping all people of color on edge.
