I've found nothing to suggest he has a connection, nor anything to suggest he doesn't have a connection with this Mosque now.
So, all you have is a trial which was dubious, where some Muslims got convicted at a time when being anti-Muslim was a big thing, and this guy had founded a mosque 20 years before, and he got convicted 17 years ago.
