A New York judge has ruled that President Trump must pay $2 million in damages to settle claims that the Trump Foundation misused funds. The money will go to a group of charities, and the foundation is in the process of dissolving.

The case is tied to a televised fundraiser for veterans held by Trump in Iowa when he was running for president in January 2016. Trump had said the funds raised would be distributed to charities. But according to court documents, the Trump Foundation improperly used $2.82 million it received from that fundraiser.

According to the judgment, that money "was used for Mr. Trump's political campaign and disbursed by Mr. Trump's campaign staff, rather than by the Foundation," which is unlawful. However, Justice Saliann Scarpulla says the funds did eventually reach charity organizations supporting veterans.

I recall seeing a story on the news over a decade ago where a group of homes were declared unfit, yet people were not only living in them, but they were certainly not, based upon the news story film, unfit. A business wanted the property to open a store. Ultimately, the business won out in court and the families were financially reimbursed for their properties.

Our Constitution allows it. If you don't like it, gather petitions from across the nation to add an Amendment, ending or restricting the ability of Eminent Domain. Personally, I don't like to see home owners bounced out of their property, even though they are financially compensated, based upon the property values in the area. But, I also see that in many cases, moving out families opens up job opportunities for local residents. It's a double-edged sword.

President Trump has come under scrutiny about his charitable foundation's use of funds. He has been ordered to pay $2 million in damages by a New York judge.

A New York judge has ruled that President Trump must pay $2 million in damages to settle claims that the Trump Foundation misused funds. The money will go to a group of charities, and the foundation is in the process of dissolving.

The case is tied to a televised fundraiser for veterans held by Trump in Iowa when he was running for president in January 2016. Trump had said the funds raised would be distributed to charities. But according to court documents, the Trump Foundation improperly used $2.82 million it received from that fundraiser.

According to the judgment, that money "was used for Mr. Trump's political campaign and disbursed by Mr. Trump's campaign staff, rather than by the Foundation," which is unlawful. However, Justice Saliann Scarpulla says the funds did eventually reach charity organizations supporting veterans.

So not true. I recall seeing a story on the news over a decade ago where a group of homes were declared unfit, yet people were not only living in them, but they were certainly not, based upon the news story film, unfit. A business wanted the property to open a store. Ultimately, the business won out in court and the families were financially reimbursed for their properties.

At no point in my statement did I say that Eminent Domain cases brought about in cities, were either won or lost, only that businesses have used Eminent Domain before. In some cases the businesses win and in others, they lose.
