And just a thought, but follow me here-------------> IF China or Russia were to attack any NATO allies, and we were NOT in NATO, we could NOT legally respond, lol. This is one of the main reasons that FDR could NOT respond to German aggression in WWII! He had to wait until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor! By that time, almost all of Europe was already lost.

NATO is an excellent idea as it deters war! Now, if you suggest that the US should impose more of its will upon it, that is a different question entirely.

NATO is not needed -------------- by us. If there is war in Europe again, they'll come whining to us as they always do, especially Britain. And then we can come in late, after being forced to by the enemy, as we always do.

But NATO is useless in these pre-conflicts. Look at how Europe does not want to get in Putin's way now, because of the oil pipeline. They don't want to back him off, and won't cooperate with us if we try to.
