There are those who do speak in tongues and those who interpret it. I am not one of either, nor have I ever met or known anyone that does. But when I was first looking to join a church back in the day, I had called one and the lady asked if I did speak in tongues and I said no, she then said I was not saved if I didn't but then wanted to pray for me 'to be enlightened'. Needless to say, that was not a church for me.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
Sorry, but what Paul writes here makes no sense. 😎

Those Corinthians must have been a strange lot. 😎

Do you even realize how retarded that sounds?

The “interpreter” could just say the gibberish means any random thing they choose….

So says anyone of the Bible.........it doesn't make sense. Yet the Bible is still in print and those so inclined still believe it, thousands of years later. And science has proved some of it's truths.

Actually it does. It does not say that's all those people do is speak in tongues, but only when the Holy Spirit prompts them too and by Gods holy wisdom, that He would include an interpreter of what's being said when He chooses to make that happen for His glory.

IOW, any spiritual gifts God has granted anyone is done for His glory. Wouldn't that glory manifest more powerfully if those involved didn't know that which they speak? And just so happens, others that also don't know can then interpret it?? That would be considered miracles

why should a group of people all speak in tongues in a language not spoken on earth (as my understanding, though maybe ancient Hebrew, that is no longer spoken) at all?? Especially if there isn't anyone available to interpret it?? Or where's the miracle if only the speaker can??

A more easier version would be if a person, known by many to not have any 'foreign' language ability and was trustworthy......all of a sudden started speaking in an unknown language. If they did their own interpreting, they'd get locked up for being a nut.........but if another well known trustworthy person of similar educational level, could actually interpret what the other was speaking.
The only way anyone would know it wasn't some fake news story, would be actions or events that aligned with it, that could not be controlled by humans. And God doesn't do anything willy nilly, but always for purpose.

Another 'explanation'.......from 1 Corinthians 12:12

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ
This passage goes on in more detail if you'd wish to read it......

At Pentecost the Holy Ghost did the opposite … everybody understood everthing.
That makes more sense to me.

I voted YES in the poll due to the fact that about seven or eight years before I met her my third wife spoke in tongues for the first time in a church. A woman there from India told her afterward that she had praised God in a dialect from India that she knew.
