What difference does it make? It doesn't change the point that these people either irresponsibly or deliberately had children they couldn't afford. If it were up to me, anybody applying for any public assistance would have to be fixed first. Of course we the taxpayers will pay for it because it would be a huge investment on our part. I dont know that I believe the solution to an out of control Government being used improperly is more improper use of the Government. It might seem expedient at the time but it will just lead to the need for more Government "solutions" in the long run. There's no doubt that too many of our politicians are beholden to corporate interests, but giving them more power isnt the answer.

The poverty rate has stayed essentially the same since 1970. I think having a min wage and raising it would have worked by now.

Never too late to repeal bullshit laws. Wage and price controls are recognized inroads of socialist campaigners. And it's not out of concern for the poor. They use them to set precedent, and get people used to idea that government should actively intervene in the economy.

Not at all. My neighbor rented to HUD people. Filthy trash straight out of the ghetto. When they moved here they continued to live like they were still in the ghetto. Cops were here 10 times in less than 4 years.
