Do you support the return of the Presidential Fitness Test? Why or Why not?

You're not a conservative so from your position, if it's a good idea, let the govt (at the NATIONAL level) institute, plan, monitor and evaluate kids.

This argument from my POV has nothing to do with whether fitness is important. It's whether a president, AT THE NATL LEVEL, should be telling local schools that they must implement something related to fitness and then evaluate kids.
Not getting why your panties are in a bunch

Many aspects of education are tested on a national level.

There are national-level evaluations of reading and math skills and more. How is physical fitness so different?

I'm not in favor of national testing, and Trump has been a big proponent of giving power back to the states and localities. But of course, if conservatives happen to love the idea, then HEY! Your kids can get on board

again, you're not a conservative. NO conservative should be in favor of an executive order mandating tests that must be carried out at the LOCAL level, most especially tests regarding children's BODIES.

But conservatives will sell out every single one of their ideologies if it fits in their narrow worldview. I mean, most will. As we see here.
Oh no!…. not their…. (Gasp) bodies!!!!

Is this one of those weird paranoid “pedophiles are everywhere” pearl-clutchy things?

What exactly are you afraid is going to happen here?

One thing is for sure. Revealing here that I'm female via my user name sure brings interesting responses. Referring to panties. Clutches pearls. Sure, Chad

Men get their panties in a bunch and clutch their pearls, too. I see male posters on here do so frequently

You still haven’t explained why this has you so disproportionately riled up, beyond that the (gasp) federal government is involved

Again, what exactly are you afraid of?

I'm not afraid of anything.

I have made my position clear. I know you don't understand it because you're not conservative.

.

I excelled when I took the test.

Anyone who thinks there's anything wrong with the test must be a lazy parent who thinks quality child care for their kids is a video game and a box of Little Debbies

My younger brother's overweight son would come home from school and demand a snack, and when I said no, he pitched a fit the likes of he could die of starvation between lunch and dinner! Disgusting.

.
Maybe your nephew only ate the school food because it was the only option and would then hope to come home to something that he could stomach better. I can understand that. On most days, the school food where I went was fine, but every now and again something that I didn't care for was the only option on whatever day it was there.

God bless you and your nephew always!!!

Holly

I just know conservatives would say this and really, the hypocrisy is unbelievable to me.

WHY should "govt schools" be fitness testing kids? How is this the role of schools?
The Presidential Fitness Program was invented by DEMOCRAT JFK and is being restarted which is great idea. American kids have never been fatter or more unhealthy, this will put a spotlight on the problem and be a wake up call to the parents.

Oh. So school is now the place to solve for health issues? Huh. What other health issues should the schools solve? How about birth control for teenagers? Vaccines? Should we start giving those out? Medications?

They've gotten away for decades with school being the place for dealing with sexual and political issues.

Yes, I'd far rather see kids led toward better physical health than kids led toward sexual depravity and political rage.

healthy body, healthy mind

Why do you keep making a sad face on my posts? You realize I think physical fitness is very important at all ages. I walk at least once daily and do other exercises and have for years.

I'm not disputing that kids need this. I'm asking WHY it's the govts job to test kids for physical fitness. Do you have an answer for that? If you say, "Well it's good for kids", okay lots of things are. But who has preeminent rights: parents or govt schools?

1. It is not correct to violate conservative principles just because "they got away with it". We were JUST saying the schools are not the place for all this stuff....except, I guess, when we like the program?

2. I'm not opposed to physical education classes. Kids need it daily IMO. I'm opposed to an executive order MANDATING that kids' physical fitness be tested and reported by a GOVT ENTITY. Seriously, how can conservatives think this is a good idea?

the same reason they set standards for English. mathematics, science, etc.

you sound like you want more generations of couch potatoes.

they aren't 'testing' for physical fitness. they aren't setting a standard that has to be met.

I'm sad because you don't seem to understand what's happening.

If I remember correctly, our Presidential fitness award program back in the 60's was not mandated.

But it sure felt great when our school was recognized for excellence in fitness.

Besides, are they saying that the government wants to come into the school and police the PE classes to make sure the rules are being followed?

Apparently you don't know this but PHYSICAL Education has been part of the public school curriculum for many decades. A PHYSICAL fitness test is an obvious extension of the PHYSICAL Education program. Your weak attempt to blur the discussion with birth control and vaccines fails.

I'm all for physical education. Why is this being controlled now by a presidential executive order? This should be left local: the states and districts.

Ok that would be one way. I say re-institute the exact same standards as the original test in every K-12 public school. It will be very telling to see the data on where our kids are today compared to 50 years ago.

Kids need to be active and parents need to be better educated on diet.

I see too many videos of angry Americans to be honest and alot of this has to be with being out of shape and having high blood pressure even when they are young. What is it that some are eating to be so angry all the time?

I sense high blood pressure and people who have issues with their temper and I wouldn't be surprised hidden things in food is impacting this.
Actually, what I have heard that is that out-of-shape, overweight people tend to be depressed. I think it has to do with the fact that they eat too much unhealthy carbs, and these carbs apparently make the brain secrete something, and it makes them depressed.

On OP:

You brought up a good point, because it reminds me of something I have always been saying. I feel that there should be a upper limit on how old a president can be. For example, let's say the POTUS cannot be older than, say, 55 or so. I think this makes sense, he is one of the most important people in the country, we can't have him die off during the middle of a huge armed conflict or something, it would just be bad. And this is not even talking about declining mental sharpness, mental confused brought on by advanced age...etc. We all know that as people get old, they become less healthy, less strong, less sharp versions of themselves. We don't want unhealthy, unfit, old people in the armed forces, why would we want them in the most important office in the world?
