A 12 ga security is the best home defense weapon there is. It is what I have.
And if you miss (somehow) it won't kill your neighbor 1/2 mile away.

However, she used an AR-15 and got excellent results. She killed one of the assholes and chased the other one off. She saved the life of her husband and probably herself and her yet to be born child.

Can't argue with success.

Not arguing, they are VERY fortunate that they both had a gun in the house, as well as she knew how to use it.
My only thing is the AR-15 is overkill for home security in normal emergencies, and it is a highly dangerous weapon to fire in any urban environment with neighbors even 1/2 mile away.
A shotgun is more effective, easier to use and less likely to miss.

As a firearms instructor I would agree with you. Your point is well taken.

Lithia is a fairly safe area to live. Home invasions are not common. I suspect the family didn't necessarily buy the rifle to be used against a home invasion. Maybe the guy bought it for other reasons. Maybe he also had other firearms but the AR was the most available to the woman in a panic mode.

I know a lot of people in the Lithia area. This week I may be able to find out who the family was and maybe a few more details.

I shoot at a range not too far away. Maybe the guy is somebody I know from the range.
