Do You Feel America Won The Vietnam War?

Well, we could have nipped all this subversive, socialist shit in the bud we have today, if we didn't have such pukes as this testifying during Vietnam, and now IN CHARGE!

I'm serious.

We accomplished none of our goals.

Was it just because our politicians got tired of it?

What are your ideas?

Nope.

We didn't have any resolve thanks to our liberals

As another poster noted above, did the world end when we left?

Nope. Not for us. Only for about 2 million Cambodians and untold numbers in Vietnam. I helped in one of the waves of boatpeople who escaped Vietnam and Cambodia after the war. I also attended college with some of the refugees that were lucky enough to escape. When they found out my part in helping them escape they were very appreciative.

We didn't lose that war on the battle field. We lost it at the negotiation table. We also lost it with all the anti war demostrations going on in the US. The war became to costly policitally so we ended up with "Peace with Honor."

My brother fought in that war and he'd like to make another trip to Vietnam.

He'd like to go there in a B52 with Jane Fonda in the bomb bay just so he could throw her traitorous ass right out of that bomb bay.
We lost it at the morgue.

Americans could not stomach a limited war with seemingly unlimited causalties.

There was no purpose to it, it was sold on another Democrat lie, the "Tonkin Gulf Incident" lie.

It should never have happened, it was all settled at Dien Bien Phu and Geneva, and we violated the treaty that would have let the Vietnamese elect Ho and his government.

It cannot be defended.

We would have.. except scumbags like Cronkite decided to start misreporting the war to turn American's sentiments against the effort. That man should have been tried for treason.

You mean "misreporting" by telling the truth? Yep, it's all his fault we lost. (eye roll)

He should have been given a Dishonorable Discharge, and tried for giving aid and comfort to the enemy while still in the service of the US.

But, the war was wrong.

Vietnam has a capitalist economy, exporting many products to the US, people travel freely, American tourists are welcome, US Naval vessels make regular port calls.......looks like we won.

The war might have been wrong, but HIS actions was a part of us losing it.... and funny how he didn't get an HONORABLE DISCHARGE until Jimmy Carter gave it to him a DECADE later!!!!!!

We accomplished none of our goals.

That is true but not true at the same time.

The US military accomplished the goal of forcing the North Vietnamese to agree to the existence of South Vietnam as a separate government. This was finalized in the Paris Peace Accords. That was the original mission.

However, the filthy ass Democrats (aided by a few weak minded Republicans) didn't like the idea that the US had prevailed against the Communists and voted to defund the military aid to South Vietnam, while the Soviets and Chinese continued to fund the North Vietnamese. That led to the demise of South Vietnam.

If the Democrats had done the same thing in Korea then their good buddy Kim Jong-un would now be in charge of of South Korea.

Did Cronkite report the NVA was decimated, Khe Sahn and Tet were victories, and the Viet Cong had been annihilated, and removed from any effective say in things for the rest of the war and after?

I think it is apparent I agree.

Might have worked too except for the fact that the South Vietnamese were for the most part crappy soldiers, unmotivated, poorly led by incompetent officers who were promoted by corrupt politicians. The Communist by comparison were highly motivated, they never gave up.

China hasn't been a friend to Vietnam for many years, they went to war in 1979.

BUT they were the main backer of N.Vietnam until then!

The Chinese provided small arms and artillery, the Soviets gave them all the SAMs and other heavy weapons systems.

However, few historians, with the possible exception of Qiang Zhai, among others, attribute the victory of the Vietnamese Communists in both Vietnam Wars to the considerable support provided by the communist colossus of the north, the People’s Republic of China. [2] This Chinese military support, to include equipment, advisors and planning assistance, provided from 1949-1975, would prove in both the First and Second Indochina Wars to be decisive.

Yes and no. As it relates to Vietnam, no. As it relates to our combat of communism, yes.

We lost the Viet Nam war because it was mico managed from the WH.

We lost the Viet Nam war because it was mico managed from the WH.
We lost it because we were wrong.

Shit works like that.

We lost because President Johnson was controlling everything.
They could not do anything without his approval first rather than the military commanders.
When ever any President and Secretary of State run things from the WH rather than the commanders on the battlefield you lose that war.
