Did *YOU* read that anywhere? *I* think not.
How about we get RID of the entire TAX CODE...and go with the FairTax...or similiar?
The TAX code is the majority of the problem since it allows Government to manipulate people and their liberty? Direct taxation wasn't in the cards at the founding of the Republic.
Here's my understanding of the FairTax:
(1) A stock broker who sells $15,000 purchase of a stock IPO will have a tax based only on the amount of the transaction fee. Let's say that amounts to $150.
(2) Now consider a doctor who performs a operation that after insurance costs the patient $15,000 out-of-pocket. His tax liability will be around $4500.
(3) Place your mom in a nursing home in the states and the tax will be enourmous. Send her down to Costa Rico and avoid any built-in FairTax cost liablities.
Thus I don't see how the FairTax is any less manipulative in its initial implementation and I certainly consider it naive to think isn't even more open to manipulation than the income tax. Seems you have faith that leaving the sales and services tax rate up to politicians will not leave us at their will to decide Bibles should be taxed less than Playboys, wool less than furs, and so on.
If's-And's-Butts aside?
What is the FairTax plan?
The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 296) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.
The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

No pretenses. You keep your own paycheck in FULL. You pay tax on anything you BUY...23% across the board...period.
And it's more in line with commerce, and taxation upon commerce as originally intended by the Founders to fund government, -AND- to keep that government limited...and force the same government to live within their means as WE are expected to.
And of course not to punish certain segments of society that oft become targets of money-hungry/Power hungry Government bureaucrats.
Grow up KID. Come back when you have some life experience.
When the war on poverty began under LBJ, the percentage of people in poverty in this nation was about 16% IIRC. Since the war kicked off, the percentage of those in poverty has decreased how many percent?
0%. it's gone up by maybe a few decimals, so basically no change.
When are we going to engage in an exit strategy from the war on poverty?
Grow up KID. Come back when you have some life experience.
May I recommend that you grow up as well? Because out of the two of us, you're the one living in fantasy land.
I think we should end all welfare...period.
Obama was just to much.
I'm the one with decades over you sport. You really need to grow up and learn some real lessons of life that YOU have yet to experience.
*YOU* are wet-behind-the-ears still, and it shows.

Wow, that sounds really good!
They could set a day that everyone would no longer have taxes taken out of their pay check and on the same day everything that is sold would have an additional tax put on it.
Then the government would have to increase all entitlements, like miltary pay and medicare payments, and governement workers pension to compensate to the huge increase in the cost of living that would be created by the extra tax that everyone would have to pay just for day to day living.
So government mandatory spending would skyrocket, causing the government to increase it's sales tax or go bankrupt and destroy the world economy.
Of course employers, very well aware that employees were enjoying a huge increase in desposable income could eliminate benefits and raises and bonuses...
Meanwhile, the additional tax on all purchases would effectively cause the greatest jump in inflation in history. Everyone would clamp down on spending.
This in turn would cause a drop in sales in all non-essential goods causing businesses to close down, which means millions laided off.
With less people in work and less people spending, the governement would have to increase it's sales tax or go bankrupt, thereby increasing the cost of living and forcing the government to increase entitlements across the board.
That in turn would force the government to tax more, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax, which would increase the cost of living for everyone, which would cause everyone to clamp down on spending, which would cause businesses to close, which would cause lay-offs, which would cause less spending, which would cuase the governement to increase it sales tax...etc...
Congradulations! You've come up with a plan for the total destruction of civilization!
What are you? Some kind of modern day Visigoth!?!?!?
I'm the one with decades over you sport. You really need to grow up and learn some real lessons of life that YOU have yet to experience.
*YOU* are wet-behind-the-ears still, and it shows.
Don't worry Thomas, each day you show consistently on USMB that age is just a number and that maturity can't be judged on such things.
*YOU* project very well.
*YOU* project very well.
I remember when I was as immature as you. I think I was somewhere around twelve.
The only reason this hits home for you is that YOU are a product OF it...aren't you?
And you can't hold a candle to me or anyone else. Grow up.
I think we should end all welfare...period.
Obama was just to much.
Then what?
Seriously . . . then what happens?
I think we should end all welfare...period.
Obama was just to much.
Then what?
Seriously . . . then what happens?
People become responsible for themselves and are forced to make proper choices ?
What a concept, eh? Millions of us practice it daily.
Then the moochers --including the bureaucrats who line their pockets first, before anyone gets "helped"-- go out and get real productive jobs.I think we should end all welfare...period.
Obama was just to much.
Then what?
Seriously . . . then what happens?
The fair tax must coincide with the repeal of the income tax. Otherwise both will happen.
No exceptions.
