DEVELOPING: Possible hurricane could put levees in danger in Louisiana
(AP) — A storm swamped New Orleans streets and paralyzed traffic Wednesday as concerns grew that even worse weather was on the way: a possible hurricane that could strike the Gulf Coast and raise the Mississippi River to the brim of the city’s protective levees. The storm was associated with an atmospheric disturbance in the Gulf that forecasters said was on track to strengthen into a hurricane by the weekend. The National Hurricane Center expected the system to become a tropical depression by

Well be safe and careful if you live there....

Oh my god, imagine how hard youre going to get off if that levee breaks! Why cant god do you a favor and give you an epic natural disaster just one time? Im crossing my fingers for you.

I see where Barry has inundated one of my favorite destinations, The French Quarter, and this is just getting started. I have had so many great times in The Quarter; love that place.

My sister & her family reside about 15 to 20 miles directly west of Baton Rouge. They have dodged a few weather bullets over the years but this one (Barry) looks like it could be a real bitch. My sister resides in an extremely rural area situated roughly midway between the Mississippi River, and the Atchafalaya Basin. This area is (generally) prone to flooding & has seen it's fair share of major flood damage over the years.

I told my sister many years ago, "you know you're living in a bad location in a 'red state' and one day mother nature is gonna take some revenge; don't push your luck."

Take your revenge Barry. LOFL .........

Maybe they should move to a safer terrain instead of blaming things on politics??

"Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry"...Don McLean. A brief research of Louisiana Casino revenue reveals that riverboat pirates gleaned 180 million in a single month. Wouldn't you think they would contribute to the health of the levees?

We'll see if any of that shoring up of the levees they did after Katrina did any good.

I hope so, a crapton of their cockroaches fled here thinking they were going to run game.

They're still in FSP with years to go.

I hope there's no hurricane and the levees hold. I have a passel of friends in the NO area.
