How would voter ID promote cheating? Individuals have two years to get one, and in order to register to vote you have to show up in person. Why can’t a person get an ID at the same time they register to vote? Perhaps the law needs to be changed so that voter‑registration offices remain open after business hours, so people who can’t get away from work are not impeded from registering to vote and obtaining an ID.

In short, verification of eligibility to vote should be a requirement, and the state should ensure that everyone has an opportunity to meet that requirement.

I'd vote it down as we do not have the means necessary to enact this. Someone who has voted for 50 years shows up at the polls to vote. They don't drive. They get a provisional ballot BUT for it to count they have to get a photo I.D.

At least here in WV the only way to do that is at the state Capitol. So someone has to get a ride three hours away to be able to do what they have done for the last 50 years.

Because they think that poor people are less likely to go through the hassle of getting ID, and taking it with them to vote.

They think it's going to be an advantage for them.

Also they'll try and make sure it's not that easy to get ID in certain areas, like black areas, won't tell people it's essential, and let them not figure it out until they end up trying to vote.
