Democrats are turning themselves into the enemies of democracy

Didn’t we learn this during Covid? The democrats are authoritarian to their core. They won’t be happy until they get to tell you how to vote or flat out keep you from having a vote.
Oh, we absolutely did learn this...Which is why this latest tantrum is so ridiculous. This was a simply CR with NO add ins, simply to keep government open for 7 weeks while they conduct the appropriations process.

It is Democrats that are shutting down the government, and lying about why...Republican's should not let them get away with it...

The problem for Schumer’s message, however, is that holding out for more Medicaid spending is the opposite of standing up for democracy. Rather than shutting down the government over unilateral executive actions, or presidential refusals to spend money authorised by Congress, Schumer is trying to undo the biggest thing passed by a Republican Congress. He’s trying to use leverage to win a victory he didn’t have the votes to get. It completely contradicts the Democrats’ theme that they’re the ones standing up for Congress and representative government.

Democrats are talking themselves into forcing a government shutdown. But they can’t seem to agree on why.

Schumer can speak all he wants, but money talks. So long as his key demand is for more Medicaid money, voters are apt to see through all his slogans about democracy.

Comment: This is another highlight of exactly why not only Democrats lost in the last election, but why they will continue to lose....They have forsaken American citizens in favor of Foreigners that entered our country illegally. Not only that, but they don't have a solid leadership voice....Their senior members are going off in all directions with no clear message, other than Trump triggers them....]]

IMHO, we have the clearest path this coming midterm to gain a super majority and silence them completely....My God, can you imagine? They lose their damned minds....
It’s what the people want. They won’t tolerate health costs going even higher.

How would you know "what the people want"? You're still in denial about why you lost the last election.... :dunno:

Lost because Trump lied and the majority believed him. Is Ukraine over? Are grocery prices down? Where are the jobs?

Thank you. I found the source of the 114% increase (link below).
The screen shot wasn't clear and I assumed that it was monthly premiums. Actually the 888 / 1906 numbers were annual. My bad. WW
Thanks for that link, my AI google was more confused than I was.
My point being that the monthly premium increase is from $30 to $150, which would hopefully be offset by the
BBB's "no tax on tips or on OT". Certainly not a life or death increase in premiums, and they would come out way ahead if they get tips or OT.

What's the problem?

You don't want immigrants to have health insurance?
You don't want them to have insurance on their vehicles or houses?
No problem at all, they can have all the insurance they're willing to pay for out of their own pockets...dumbass.

That's what I just stated...........They have no other choice, DUMB ASS.

Of course I want illegal aliens to have insurance.

Right after they're deported back to their home country.

Gee, lots to unpack in the thread. First things first, the line about forsaking Americans in favor of foreigners is a lie the OP keeps repeating even though it's been debunked. It's so egregiously wrong it's not worth debunking again.

Second, Dem's have a laser focus on healthcare, both ACA premiums and Medicaid cuts, so the accusation they can't agree on the purpose of the shutdown is specious.

I'm more interested in talking about something else. Namely, the clever way the author of the article approaches his criticism of Schumer. Suggesting Dem's refusal to vote to fund the government is anti-democratic because legislation ending recent ACA subsidies and cutting Medicaid funding was passed by Congress. It forces us examine the nature of representative government.

So my question is this. Is it anti-democratic to advocate for the repeal of a portion of already adopted legislation not supported by the majority of the public?

AI Overview

Recent polls indicate widespread public opposition to cuts in Medicaid spending, including a majority of Republicans. Polls conducted in 2025 also show that most Americans are worried about the negative consequences of reducing federal funding for the program.

Key poll findings in 2025
General opposition to cuts

  • A September 2025 Northeastern University survey found that 68% of Americans disapprove of cuts to Medicaid.
  • An April 2025 NAMI/Ipsos poll showed that 71% of Americans disagree with cutting Medicaid funding to reduce government spending, with 55% of Republicans and 73% of Independents in opposition.

Why don't you enlighten us then....Because from what I see, the dems don't like that they can't load a simple CR up with their wish list of tax payer theft for their agenda's so they’re throwing a tantrum....
Republicans can’t pass a continuing resolution without the votes for Dems.

Which means compromise is necessary.

That’s democracy.

It isn't like I don't understand why you folks keep accusing Dem's of being authoritarian given the direction Dotard is taking the country. But how is the shutdown going to be resolved if there is no negotiation?

Republicans say they won’t continue negotiations if Democrats allow shutdown to take place

You’re disagreement with fact doesn’t “debunk” anything.

So, why’d Democrats set the date for the COVID era subsidy to expire?

Then go start your own

2 days ago — Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson reneged on a commitment to swear in Arizona's newest Congresswoman, Adelita Grijalva, next week.

Johnson designated Oct. 7 to Oct. 13 as a district work period, which allows members of Congress to return to their home states. That means the House would not be in session to hold a swearing-in ceremony for Grijalva, who won a landslide victory last month to succeed her late father Raúl Grijalva in Arizona’s Congressional District 7.

Inconvenient things happen when you act like children.

No, that’s petulant children trying to force their agenda while out of power. Who the flying frack do you people think you are?
So angry.

Maybe next time you guys should win more elections and you wouldn’t have to negotiate.

"Inconvenient"?
Sure, like shutting down congress to protect child molesters?

3 days ago — U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says he believes high-profile associates of Jeffrey Epstein participated in his behavior,
and that Epstein may have blackmailed them with incriminating videos.

Asked by the New York Post's Miranda Divine on Wednesday's Pod Force One podcast whether high-profile associates of Epstein knew of his behavior and just ignored it, Lutnick said he believes, "No, they participated. They participated That's what his M.O. was -- 'Get a massage, get a massage.'"

"And what happened in that massage room, I assume, was on video," Lutnick said. "This guy was the greatest blackmailer ever."
