The tariff tax won't be paid by the Chinese manufacturer, it will be paid by the U.S. importer and then you, at retail.

The exampled Chinese manufacturer may get hurt later down the road when USA sales on products slow down due to price resistance, and the USA importer of the goods buys less. They buy less, because fewer widgets are sold at the high retail price.

It's a very long road, when the product has no manufacturing plants to make the widgets here in the USA and they would have to be built and assembled from scratch....

This is not a short term process, and higher prices on everything with a tariff is INFLATION that will be permanent.

My main concern is our States, who draw most of their State taxes through their sales tax....when retail sales slow.... due to price resistance...the States could be running shortfalls, and will also have to find another means to tax us.
That's nice. But, you didn't address what I asked.
Why WAS it OK for every other freaking country to TARIFF THE UNITED STATES EXPORTS?
Now it's an existential CRISIS that Trump is NEGOTIATING a fairer trade deal.
Oh. My. Cookie.
:aargh:

US court blocks Trump from imposing the bulk of his tariffs

He should ignore it, it has no standing and cannot compel POTUS to surrender his rights and duties

These moronic traitors that post in here and exist in our cities, universities, and government only care about one thing, maintaining their strangle hold on political power, which begets financial power. If Trump succeeds with many of his policies, tariffs being one of them, they know the success will be unmeasurable, and they can't let that happen since it will be the end of their power. They don't care about this country, the constitution, or any citizen struggling to live in the debt society that they've created. It's plain as day by what they defend every day, and what powers they abuse to ensure their control. It makes me wonder how far they can go before the everyday saps like the ones that post in here will say it's gone too far? I think they could go to complete tyranny in their quest, and these losers will defend them. Stupid is as stupid does.

I hope these corrupt courts are struck down, we're on the path to destruction, and these idiots are cheering it on.

The international trade court is overstepping it's authority by ruling on international trade?

Would you care to explain that?

So who runs your country then?

American exporters can be hit with unlimited tariffs and non-tariff barriers and must just accept it?

The courts weren't elected. Trump ran on tariffs and was elected on them.

The courts don't seem interested in protecting Americas national security.
What ever the tariffs foreigners hit us with, were NEGOTIATED between nations in their trade agreements....and legally bound by the legally signed trade agreement with the foreign nation and the USA....

This can be specifically addressed between nations to modify their trade agreement.

Trump just acting like a dictator of the world nullifying every single trade agreement between all different regions of trade among Nations with us, is not legal, according to this court.

You don't have trade deals with Europe or China, they just hit you with whatever THEY want to hit you with.

Because for 26 years, I was in the industry on the retail side at corporate, and the wholesale and manufacturing side after that...at Corporate as well. I've done the importing as an American Company...

I know how product ...both at wholesale and at retail are priced and the formulas to calculate their pricing, at a profitable level....and what item costs are included to derive the price sold at.

Great, can you give us some real examples regarding tariffs?

Trump overstepped his authority. He was ***** slapped.
Here we go again. Contradictions Galore:

The Socialist Demon Rats refer to President Trump as an "authoritarian" , a fascist, a dictator

But now they call him a TACO - Trump Always Chickens Out

Has it ever been a trait of an authoritarian fascist dictators to "chicken out"

Of course not. So the TACO aspersion is AN ADMISSION THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP IS NOT AN AUTHORITARIAN FASCIST DICTATOR

The act of fine tuning - to tactfully control imports - is not really imposing tariffs - so in that respect the US Court of International Trade is wrong

Let Paul Craig Roberts explain

"I will attempt to put the issue in a correct perspective. It is not Trump’s intention, at least at the present time, to institutionalize a tariff regime. Trump is using tariffs as a threat to secure agreements that he thinks are in America’s interests. So far 50 countries have, according to reports, agreed to remove their tariffs on US goods. The countries responding aggressively seem to be China and our European allies. I explained yesterday how Trump could better have gone about his task. Nevertheless, as the Commerce Secretary said, Trump’s tariffs are not expected to extend beyond a few weeks or a few months of negotiation."

You really need to stop posting tweets as if they are fact.

Because just naming acts doesn't prove anything, junior.

The Trade Expansion Act of 1962 and the Trade Act of 1974 continued this trend, adding provisions like Section 232 and Section 301, which allowed the President to impose tariffs in response to national security threats or unfair trade practices. However, these powers were still subject to specific findings and justifications, ensuring that executive actions were neither arbitrary nor unrestricted.

Throughout these legislative changes, the Supreme Court’s insistence on the “intelligible principle” doctrine remained a cornerstone, mandating that any delegation of authority must come with clear guidelines to avoid unfettered presidential power.

Can the President Declare a Trade War?

The President’s authority to impose tariffs operates within a framework designed to balance swift executive action with legislative oversight. Key provisions include:

  • Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962: Enables the President to impose tariffs if imports threaten national security, following a thorough investigation.
  • Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974: Allows the President to impose retaliatory tariffs to counteract unfair foreign trade practices.
  • International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA): Grants the President authority to regulate commerce during national emergencies involving foreign threats, requiring a formal declaration.

The president cannot impose tariffs on his own whims arbitrarily. Period.
Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974: Allows the President to impose retaliatory tariffs to counteract unfair foreign trade practices.

It is very very complicated and goes by the weight of the components in the shoe...leather weight vs. say...the rubber weight of a sole...

So we used a formula to calculate the landed cost of the shoe once it hits America and has made its way through customs... For primarily leather upper shoes out of China we calculated a 26% increase over and above the manufacturing price we paid the factory.

This included freight, tariffs, duties, costs of letter of credits financing arrangements and a person we hired to get our products off the boat, in through customs and on to a truck to get it to our warehouse.

If the primary component of the shoe was fabric in China, then we used a formula of 36.5% that got added to the manufacturer's cost to land the shoes in the USA, because tariffs were higher on fabric than they were on leather....

We had a team of engineers that weighted the components of new products, and even engineered them to have lower tariffs by say, changing the component material in the soles to make them lighter in weight, or with more leather components than manmade materials, or visa. versa

It is very very complicated

Not really what you originally said. "The tariff tax won't be paid by the Chinese manufacturer, it will be paid by the U.S. importer and then you, at retail."

Seems simple. Your saying that if a tariff adds $3 to a product, the consumer will pay $3 more. Implicit in that you're saying the exporter will not absorb any of the tariff, the importer won't, the distributor won't and the retailer won't. I find that very had to believe.

15th post
The overstepping continues as Trump supposedly now cant enact tariffs
The judicial tyranny has spread to where 1.5% of that body now run the country
And let me tell you what is next. A judge will soon rule that Trump must past the judges mental competency test before continuing his elected duties.
The children have siezed control and it won’t be lessening

Seems this courts charter is to hear international disputes. Which nation is having a hearing on Trumps tariffs .? Suddenly this minor league court jumps to the front page will new, proactive rulings that no one applied for???

So you're degrading the product in order to account for tariffs instead of cutting into profit? Why does your company import from China, why don't they buy from American companies? Where is your loyalty to your fellow citizens?
