Zone1 Could Humans Survive a Nuclear War Between Nato and Russia?

It's said that the world is closer to nuclear war now than it was during the Cuban missile crisis. However, on a bright note, that wasn't even close for those of us who have a real understanding of the situation.

But can it be denied that the world is now closer to nuclear war than it's ever been?

Perhaps it's time for the discussion?

I'll put it up on the board, if for no other purpose than to be able to gauge the attitudes of the board's members.

And of course determining whether or not members are more likely to avoid the question?
No, we cannot survive a nuclear war.

The US has already said it will reply catastrophically.
Of course that's what they have to say.

But that's bullshit bluster and the call would/will need to be made at the time according to Russia's use of a tactical nuke.

No country is going to jump right into a nuclear war because of the use of a tactical nuke.

They are saying that because they have heard that Russia is assuming the US would not respond with nuclear. I am not sure the position of Biden is that much different to that of Putin. Both seem to have a childish need to win which makes it less easy to be sure they will act rationally.

Most humans would survive an all-out nuclear war.

America doesn't need to use nuclear weapons.

America could annihilate Russia with conventional weapons.

That's the reason why Russia, China. N.K., and many other nations have to keep nuclear weapons.

That is pure ignorance on your part.

In a way, I think you are right. But the result would be the same as if they had just jumped in.

The US, having drawn a line, would have to respond. Probably their response would be to declare a no fly zone over Ukraine or start actively helping Ukraine. I mean actively, instead of just sending bombs and bullets.

Russia would see this as an escalation, and probably launch another “tactical” nuke. The US would respond by bombing the weapons depots inside Russia, either with Stealth aircraft, or with Cruise missiles. and every action would be an escalation from the previous one.

Eventually, and it would probably take days, or perhaps a few weeks, the full Nuclear War would start. Each side would see each step as vital to their own survival and place. Bombing would come when either side felt they were back into a corner, and left with no alternative.

Putin is likely to do it. Yes, he’s got to be smart enough to understand his position. But his Position is a bad one. Russia doesn’t have a long history of peaceful transitions of power. And people like Putin, strong men, arrogant men, don’t lose with grace. They are the epitome of the term Bad Loser. Putin almost certainly faces assassination should he lose his position as President. And after all that has been expended in Ukraine, he can’t pull back without Victory. If he does, his position is history.

His family, and Mistress are all safe in secure bunkers. And it is Victory of Death for him. But we can’t let him win. If we do, we start the wars of Imperialism all over again. We can’t do that either. It will certainly lead to all out Nuclear War.

Each day is another step in a Minefield.

Prove it. And please don't babble about some hypothetical hypersonic weapons.
I am not proving anything. If I have heard this then you have as well. If you are arguing that Russia was lying then you are gambling your life twice.

During the cold war it was apparently the opposite way round. Russia had better weapons so the US kept it clear that any attack and they would use nukes. Now the situation is reversed and Russia saying it will use nukes has been ignored by the US. Maybe the US did not mean it when they said it. Putin has been quite clear that if it looks like Russia will be destroyed, he will use nukes.

It does make it more likely that if Russia feels it cannot win it will use nukes. Then how the US replies will determine whether there is a world on not.

When was the last ICBM missile test by Russia?

Standard Disclaimer: 1984. There is zero evidence Russia has a functioning nuclear arsenal.

Russia is desperately trying to catch up on hypersonic technology and has appeared to abandon nuclear for advanced conventional weapons. The USA and China (with stolen technology) are generations ahead of the Russian Zircon missiles.
"with stolen technology" Bill Clinton sold them everything they needed.

Most of the hypersonic technology is well after Slick left office.

The real problem is our Universities, which do the bulk of defense research, are filled with Chinese spies.

Even the democrat party had to admit it;

{
Ji allegedly attached background reports on eight US-based individuals who Beijing could target for potential recruitment as spies, according to a federal criminal complaint.

The eight – naturalized US citizens originally from Taiwan or China – had worked in science and technology. Seven had worked for or recently retired from US defense contractors. The complaint says all of them were perceived as rich targets for a new form of espionage that China has been aggressively pursuing to win a silent war against the US for information and global influence.

Chinese man arrested in US for allegedly acting 'as an illegal agent' of China

Ji was arrested in September last year, accused of acting as an “illegal agent” at the direction of a “high-level intelligence officer” of a provincial department of the Ministry of State Security, China’s top espionage agency, the Department of Justice said at the time.

He was formally indicted by a grand jury on January 24. Ji appeared in federal court in Chicago on Friday and pleaded not guilty, according to Joseph Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for the US attorney’s office in Chicago. He is due to appear in court next on February 26 and will remain in detention until then, Fitzpatrick said.

While Ji has not been convicted, the circumstances outlined in his case demonstrate how China is using people from all walks of life with increasing frequency, current and former US intelligence officials tell CNN.

Beijing is leaning on expatriate Chinese scientists, businesspeople and students like Ji – one of roughly 350,000 from China who study in the US every year – to gain access to anything and everything at American universities and companies that’s of interest to Beijing, according to current and former US intelligence officials, lawmakers and several experts.}
