Colon Climber did an excellent job of running a form of triple-option out of the pistol formation at Nevada. So much so that the 49ers changed their offense to fit his talents. They took that strategy all the way to the super bowl and almost won.
But the NFL doesn’t like that kind of option football art so teams steered away from that and that hurt the bigot’s hiring potential.
NFL accommodates a low-IQ clientele. An ADHD mentality.
It’s a lose/lose for all parties.
And Tim Tebow did an excellent job of running the spread option at Florida, en route to winning two BCS National Championships and a Heisman trophy (while also becoming the only three-time Heisman finalist). His style of play translated such that in his second season in the NFL, after taking over a badly struggling Broncos squad, he led the team to the divisional playoffs, advancing to one game away from the AFC Championship after upsetting the top-ranked Steelers.
But yes, it's true the NFL doesn't like any kind of option football. However, the hiring potential of both Cap and Tebow were hurt far more by the media distractions that came with having them on the roster than by their athletic talent and skill as serviceable NFL QBs (even as backups). Ironically, the media distractions for both players resulted from their famous kneeling episodes, though their reasons for kneeling could not have been more different. The media distractions related to Tebow's kneeling that made him persona-non-grata among NFL GMs was all about his popularity among Christians, and in particular, white southern Christians--a serious no-no in the SJW/Cancel-Culture environment that's put a stranglehold on all things sports/entertainment/political over the past decade or so:
