No surprise about Schumer. Democrats made it perfectly clear that they will be the obstructionist party for at least four years. The problem for democrats is that Harry Reid pushed through a resolution that changed the rules when democrats were riding high. Thanks to Reid the senate only needs 51 votes to confirm a nominee instead of 60.

Just for clarification. The change in 2013 did not include SCOTUS nominations.

They can still be filibustered, meaning 60 votes for a cloture vote.

I think it is very unlikely the Rs will get much accomplished. Partly because they are dumb asses, but also because they are up against the media, Hollywood, academia, and the D Party. The Rs have no backbone and will fold under any pressure put on them.

Day one suggests the power of the caucuses have the ability to block the road and/or change the direction - Trump has already walked back on some of his promises, and Members of The Congress, self serving as too many of them are, have taken notice.

They're gonna bitterly attack all of his picks. Democrats are classless. They may think it's gonna help them, but it's gonna actually hurt them in the long run. Why would they not do the same for the Republican nominee?

Especially since Obama's nominee was pretty middle of the road politically...a compromise.. while whoever the Republican nominee is will almost certainly be someone on the far right.

The Democrats should not accept such a candidate and block the nomination for a full eight years if necessary.

All true, the Republicans are just as fucked up as the Democrats; however it's a pretty safe bet that they'll play revenge politics since that's the game in Washington nowadays and they have all the power and a lot of pent up anger (just like the Democrats did after the 2008 election).

As far as Trump goes, who knows? could be decent, could be a complete disaster..... we'll soon find out I suppose.
