Christianity cannot be clearly articulated as the church has been teaching it. That thousand-year-reign nonsense, for example, has helped to steer the faith in crazy, nonsensical directions that atheists and leftists find absolutely farcical, if not hysterical. As do I.

Revelation 20 is the only chapter in the Bible that mentions a one-thousand-year interval, and yet futurists and dispensationalists have built three major competing schools of thought around it: Premillennialism, Postmillennialism, and Amillennialism. The Revelator inserted a blip into his composition that seems to have little if any significance for the rest of the Bible, almost as if he mentioned it merely in passing, quite in contrast to the great weight that these people assign it. These three schools assume a literal millennium in relation to a literal return of Christ, which is an unfounded idea. And a very illogical one.

A proper hermeneutic, though, can make sense of that passage, as well as the rest of the Bible. Perhaps best is to ignore the details until the big picture comes into view, because trying to explain the details out of context distorts them.

And the big picture is very clear: Israel's history (the Old Testament) and Israel's eschaton (the New Testament). Amid the temple peoples' demise emerges Christianity and the kingdom of God. That really seems to be Christianity in 25 words or less.
