Trump pardoned for what was done and not for some hidden thing that might be brought up at a later day.

I would just add this for your consideration regarding the pardon. If the next admin was to be run by a Repub not promising retribution, after having nominated an AG and head of the FBI who have already bombastically promised to go after Baby Donald's chosen list of people he hates, Joe may not have felt the need to preemptively prevent Hunter from being targeted.
