But if they did, they'd be within their rights to.

Trump backed China into a corner. They will either negotiate tariffs or have a severe economic downturn which may entice them to go to war, which they won’t win. The Chinese are a lot of things, but stupid isn’t one of them. They will negotiate with Trump, all the while trying to save face. Democrats will buy whatever rhetoric comes out of the negotiations, but the reality will be that the US will be in better position. This was the entire point of tariffing the entire world. Trump knew, as most could figure, that the rest of the world would run to America to negotiate, not China.

Trade with the US only accounts for 3% of China's GDP, a number China can easily make up with other countries that will be less keen to trade with us when those tariffs kick in in 90 days.
