OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA — A concealed carrier successfully thwarted the efforts of three men to rob her late at night outside a Dollar Tree. According to police reports from the scene, the woman was exiting the Dollar Tree and heading to her car when she was approached by a man and asked to walk with him. When she refused, he point-blank told her he was going to rob her of her purse.

Her assailant followed her into her home and started to approach her, but the woman had made it to a cabinet where she retrieved a handgun to protect herself and her home.

When confronted with the firearm, the violent intruder and would-be robber/rapist/murderer fled the scene.

The smart, independent, gun-owning woman did not require medical attention, most likely due to the fact that she was able to pull a weapon on her assailant to end the attack.

I've carried a Ruger SP-101 for a while now in warm weather. It's a 5 shot 357 magnum revolver with a 2.25 inch barrel. The ballistics out of that gun for a 357 are not impressive. Recently I have acquired a new S&W Shield EZ 9mm that holds 9 rounds. It claims to have a 3.675 inch barrel length. Given that the 9mm round in a hair longer than one inch this gives a little longer barrel than the 357. I'm thinking of starting to carry the shield instead of the 357 in warm weather because it has nearly double the fire power and very close to the same amount of muzzle energy. What do you think?

Indeed, tests have demonstrated that revolvers maintain the same muzzle velocity as pistols when both are shooting pistol cartridges, such as .380 ACP; in some cases, a slightly greater MV. So, a .357 revolver would have the greater advantage over a 9mm pistol.

There are differences though.....

Revolvers are harder at times to conceal carry.....they tend to only hold 5-6 bullets while semi-autos can give you 10-19 bullets to protect your life.......

The best advice is to do a lot of research when you go to buy a gun, determine how you will use it, and what you need it for.....
