The whole justice system needs to be changed. The guilty go free if they have money. The innocent go to prison for 40 years, or get the DP if they don't have money. Justice is about which lawyer can b.s. the jury. Juries are so stupid, that the only ones on the jury are those that aren't smart enough to get out of jury duty, or for some moronic reason think it's their civic duty, or have a holier than thou ego.
Prisons have thugs lining up to get in because their friends are there, and can get better drugs on the inside. Plus they've got free rent, free food, color tv, air conditioning, and free medical. There was a convict in California that got a free heart transplant. But if you're a law abiding senior citizen too bad.
And the DP is too easy. Just get a shot and go to sleep, like rabid dogs. The DP needs to be public hangings, like in the old days. Seeing criminals dangling and squirming from a rope is a REAL deterrent. And prison should be bread and water till you get out. Nothing else, no medical. Then people would try to stay out of prison. And the cost to keep a prisoner would be a lot less than $40,000.00 a year.
And any time a person is wrongly convicted, the judge, prosecutor and jury have to do the same punishment they gave.

The death penalty is just pointless. Think of the consequences of not putting a deserving person to the death penalty as opposed to putting an undeserving person to the death penalty. Combined with the high costs and the low effectiveness, it's no surprise that 88% of criminologists disagree with such a punishment.

I support the death penalty for the most heinous of crimes, but believe the evidence should be overwhelming.

I also support limiting an inmate's time on death row to 5 years. You have 5 years to get your conviction overturned, then it's lights out.

That is a common complaint, it has been raging for decades. No one has been able to come up with a solution yet. It isn't perfect but it's the best one out there. Let's not tear it down until we know we have something better to replace it with.

Did you see the recent scandal with that Justice Project group...they coerced a criminal innocent of a murder to confess to the murder to get the criminal on death row out of prison...turns out...the guy on death row actually did it....now he is out and can't be retried....
