California Pizza Places Laying Off ALL Delivery Drivers Due To New Law

So horrible. Shit pizza. Tastes like eating a salt lick.

I suppose those people who are ording and demanding the services of the delivery drivers don't agree with you. However will they get their pizza's now ?

Just for accuracy shitferbrains, 1200 ain’t “thousands”

And guess what? Those pizzas ain’t gonna deliver themselves.

Those drivers shift to Ubereats or what ever

Ubereats is going to pay 20.00/Hour. Good luck with that.

Rising expenses may be unpleasant for a business. But putting a torpedo into your productivity isn't the solution and is an absolutely idiotic business move.

Well, you would expect competitors to have to raise prices to pay for the extra labor associated with delivery (this assumes both raise prices based on comparable cost of construction. These guys just may only do carryout at this point. And the cost savings from not paying the drivers may be incentive enough for folks to come to the store.

Who knows what they are thinking ?

They may be anticipating that a lack of unverifiable mail in ballots this time will help return a normalcy to the country.

Sure, it might play out that way. But the pizza business is heavily driven by delivery. It's the majority of where the business resides, and the industry has been fighting an uphill battle to convert delivery customers into carry-out customers ever since the post COVID staffing shortages set in for low wage jobs. Dominos leaned hard into trying those incentives by actually giving customers a $3 per order "tip" to pick up their own pizza.

The normal response for most businesses facing higher expenses would be to increase prices to offset those costs, AND THEN to reduce workforce to match any reduction in consumership that might take place after the price increases. But what we're seeing here doesn't appear to be rational business decision making. It's just and angsty turd pulling an Ellis Wyatt.

First off, it would help to read the liink.............

2 Pizza Hut franchises which happen to own a few stores are the only ones doing this in the article. Not all pizza places as the OP asserted in their title.

They are doing the layoffs up through Feb because of the 20 dollar minimum wage law that takes effect in April, and the franchise owners don't want to pay the money. Chances are, they will probably try to use GrubHub or some other delivery service, but will find out it doesn't work as well as they thought, and will hire back drivers (my prediction).

And,,,,,,,,,,,its only the 2 Pizza Hut franchises doing this...........not all pizza places.

He didn't say all. He said pizza places, plural meaning more than 1. 2 is more than 1.

He also said those places were laying off all delivery drivers.

He never said all delivery drivers were being laid off in California.
