Black Unemployment Is Surging Again. This Time Is Different.

President Trump signed the historic FIRST STEP ACT into law.

  • 90 percent of those who have had their sentences reduced are Black Americans.
  • FIRST STEP ACT shortens mandatory minimum sentence for nonviolent drug crimes.
  • The law allows offenders sentenced under racially motivated mandatory minimums to petition for revaluation
  • President Trump launched the "Ready to Work" Initiative, which helps released prisoners gain meaningful employment.
  • President Trump has proposed the Second Step Act to partner with corporate America to create opportunities for former prisoners to rejoin society.
Black Americans are seeing unprecedented levels of economic success with record low unemployment rates, more jobs, and higher incomes.

  • Over 1.4 million more Black Americans have found a job between President Trump's election and February 2020.
  • Black poverty reached a historic low in 2019.
  • President Trump designated 8,760 Opportunity Zones that are projected to spur $100 billion in private investment in minority communities.
  • The Trump administration established a fund to deploy $1 billion in capital funding for minority-owned businesses through the Commerce Department.
President Trump called on Congress to pass school choice legislation to expand educational opportunities for all American children, especially those in our nation's inner cities.
Read the OP and my update again. 8.3% unemployment. Trump coasted on Obama's progress then tanked black employment with Covid. Biden fixed it to an all time low now Trump is breaking it again. 8.3%.

Labor data show that unemployment is rising overall and especially among historically vulnerable groups. Policy decisions under the current administration have exacerbated the trends. Analyses from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and American Progress show that the broader Republican policy agenda, including tax cuts skewed toward wealthier households, cuts to the safety net, and workforce reductions in federal employment, disproportionately harms low-income and predominantly Black households, undermining economic stability for those already at risk.

Again, how is it that Asians can weather the economic policy of every president say since Clinton until now but blacks kept on getting left behind since Clinton presidency? Trump did it?

When Bill Clinton ran for president in 1992, urban black communities across America were suffering from economic collapse. Hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs had vanished as factories moved overseas in search of cheaper labor, a new plantation. Globalization and deindustrialization affected workers of all colors but hit African Americans particularly hard.

Unemployment rates among young black men had quadrupled as the rate of industrial employment plummeted. Crime rates spiked in inner-city communities that had been dependent on factory jobs, while hopelessness, despair and crack addiction swept neighborhoods that had once been solidly working-class. Millions of black folks—many of whom had fled Jim Crow segregation in the South with the hope of obtaining decent work in Northern factories—were suddenly trapped in racially segregated, jobless ghettos.

Obama gave Trump a declining GDP and an economy based on printed money

Obama gave Trump a declining GDP and an economy based on printed money
Trump inherited a steady growing economy at full employment and low inflation. Trump passed a decimated and destroyed economy. Employment started falling before the pandemic and the deficit started blowing up before the pandemic. Trump was fueling his economy with deficits and lose monetary policies of nearly zero interest rates and cut off productions fueling years of inflation. You are a psychopath. Same will happen again. Watch.

The economy was in decline as Obamas economy was based on printing money called quantitative easing

The economy was in decline as Obamas economy was based on printing money called quantitative easing
That’s backwards. Trump printed more money than Obama, ran much larger deficits, pressured the Fed to keep rates artificially low, and exploded the national debt before COVID.

Obama used quantitative easing to pull the economy out of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Trump inherited a fully recovered, growing economy and then juiced it with debt-financed tax cuts and easy money—leaving nothing in the tank when a real crisis hit.

GDP growth was 1.6% in 2016. Unemployment was consistently falling. Quantitative easing ended in 2014.

Fun fact, the Fed is going back to quantitative easing because Trump’s economy is weakening.

THat was Covid Trumps economy was the best in history. The great depression was caused by Carter and democrats when they passed the CRA Community Reinvestment Act

Did you read the thread?

Black unemployment is up 2% points in the last year.

How is that getting stronger?

“Joblessness for Black workers is rising again, two years after reaching a record low. It’s a troubling indicator: Joblessness often spikes higher for historically marginalized groups during economic downturns, and takes longer to fall.

This time, the Trump administration’s assault on diversity programs and cuts to the federal work force could make it even more difficult for Black workers to recover when conditions improve.

The African American unemployment rate has surged over the past four months, from 6 to 7.5 percent, while the rate for white people ticked down slightly to 3.7 percent. On top of a slowing economy, the White House’s actions have disproportionately harmed Black workers, economists said.”

Trump supporters will of course lie about this being ‘fake news.’

It’s not.

Trump’s assault on diversity programs is having the desired outcome.
During Trump's first term, he had a beautiful economy with the lowest Black unemployment in history.

This infuriated Democrats.

You cant gaslight someone as well educated and as smart as I am. I listed very real facts that happened BEFORE covid. You ran away from disputing them to LYING.

Trump printed more money than Obama
  • End of Obama (Jan 2017): ~$4.5 trillion
  • Peak under Trump (2020): ~$7.4 trillion

Trump spent more and added more debt
  • Obama deficits fell every year after 2009
  • Trump deficits rose sharply before COVID
  • Trump added ~$8 trillion to the national debt in one term
  • Deficits exceeded $1 trillion in Trump’s pre-pandemic economy

  • Trump years: rates cut during economic growth, not contraction
  • Trump openly attacked and pressured the Fed to lower rates

Using Covid to attack Trump doesnt fly. Before Covid we had the best ecnomy in history and we are on the way there again today.

They're idiots. The zenith for most of them would be a truck driver, perhaps a heavy equipment operator?
Which means most <80IQ are relegated to service sector jobs. Those are the first to drop off as they rely on disposable income.
As such, they are a bellwether.
The ironic thing is that they insist on voting for a party that is pro-mass immigration. Immigrants who compete in the same strata of the job market as blacks.
Not that the Republifucks are any better with their H1B BS.
Two sides of the same shitty dick.
BEND OVER AMERICA!

Biden wrecked the economy Trump is fixing it and its already better its just that simple

Since I am a black man, I refuse to take any part of the blame for what happened. In what world is 79 percent voting against Trump not showing up for Harris? Please tell me because 79 percent of the black men who voted, did so for Harris. There is no other situation when 21 percent is considered a great gain or show of support. The only situations that I know of where the lowest score wins are cross country and golf. When 79 percent of a group opposes a candidate that is not support. In 2020, Trump got 19 percent of the black male vote. When did 2 percent start qualifying as a big gain?

79 percent of black men, that's about 4 out of 5 black men in America who voted in 2024. So it is time to stop repeating the white media narrative. Whites are why Trump won, not black men.

Trump got 13 percent support from blacks, 46 percent from Hispanics, and 40 percent of the Asian vote. The ONLY group as a population that voted for Trump in a majority, both men and women, were white. So why did the media run stories about record black male support or great increases in Hispanic support, when most of the people in both these groups said NO to Donald Trump? If whites had voted 55 percent for Trump, he would have lost. But they didn’t. 57 percent of the white vote went to Donald Trump. Trump won the election by less than 2 percent.

It is time this narrative stopped. It's time whites stop looking at everything but themselves, and I am talking to white liberals as well as white right-wingers here.
