I don't get the reason for this. Why is the American flag refered to as just a decoration? Are the bill of rights and US Constitution just pieces of paper? Is the Bible just a book? What is this world coming to?

The cemetary goes around and cleans up. They have rules for a reason. You don't have to know or like all of them.

You could show me a dead vet and his dog and ask why can't his dog visit the grave site? Because they don't like dogs shitting on other people's graves. People complained.

My dad gets mad they take the blanket he puts on my moms grave in the winter. "why did they take it?" he asks. "Because the place would be a mess if they didn't dad"

1000 American flags is a mess. A patriotic mess but a mess none the less. I must confess.

The term "decoration" is probably the term used in the cemeteries rules and applies to everything placed on a grave. Now would be the time to add these words to their rules, "except American Flags."

They're tiny flags in the ground. How can that possibly cause a problem?
Easy. They fall, fly all around, create a mess, make the place look shitty. You can put a flag up but eventually it gets taken down. Then you look at the place and it looks pristine. Quit being a baby and making something out of nuthing.

We have always honored our fallen heroes with the flag.
What are we coming to? Radical dems who hate this nation, the american people and anything associated with those two. Gov't education run by democrats and their worse allies who need American citizens to be brainwashed into hating this nation.

The President of Newton Cemetery said there are strict rules for decorations. For flags, the only holidays recognized are Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Veterans Day.

“Flags can be placed two weeks before those holidays and will generally remain in place two weeks after those holidays when our staff picks them up.”

i should have looked up the news story first

It said that in the video. I just want to know what's different about The Fourth of July and since when is the symbol of our great nation just simply a decoration?

Cemeteries all over the world call anything on a grave a decoration and it's just the term used in their paperwork for the rules. That's what they call them here. Some of course might have exceptions for some things. Now that this has happened they may change their rules to exempt flags in some way.

Also, if the American flag is just a decoration then why are there certain rules about it like how it isn't supposed to touch the ground and you're not supposed to tear it or burn it (unless it's old and then you can burn it) and that a light should always be shining on it?

If the rule is that decorations can only be allowed on graves for a certain number of weeks before maintenance throws them all away, well, then that’s the rule

Stop whining like a baby

This isn’t political

I go to the Veteran's cemetery often. Unfortunately, I've been to quite a few services there over the years, more than I care to count, but have always been honored to do so. Here, the facility itself places American flags on every gravesite regularly. It's a beautiful, well maintained place.

They do, however, have rules for certain kinds of flowers, though. Like the beds that were mentioned earlier in the thread. And I think that most people who come to visit their family members' gravesites remove and replace their own flowers themselves. People are usually pretty good about that, actually. They make sure the place is kept tidy and satisfactory.

Off topic, but as I'm reminded, there was a shooting here at the veteran's cemetery a couple of years back. A couple of visitors were killed while visiting their son's gravesite as I recall and the shooter found cover in the woods surrounding the place. S.W.A.T. showed up and took him out, though. Think there was a thread on here about it since it made national news.

It's about the American flag. How isn't that considered to be political?
Because a flag is a decoration. The rule is about ALL decorations. They aren’t singling flags out.

Read the article. After a certain amount of time the maintenance crew goes through and throws away all decorations that have been there for so many weeks. It’s to eliminate the accumulation of clutter.

What a weird life you must lead that you scour the internet searching for things to be “outraged” about without ever using an ounce of common sense or critical thinking
