Washington DC Now Has the Highest Unemployment Rate in the Country at 6.9 Percent

No shit Sherlock
That is why we have to change it

Taxation without representation
We have a population of 700,000 who do not have a Senator or Congressman

Congress has jurisdiction over DC but the people are not represented in Congress
That's what Democrats want. Not what the Constitution say's as written.
The District of Columbia was specifically excluded from statehood because the U.S. Constitution established it as a federal district to prevent any state from having undue influence over the national government. This arrangement was intended to ensure that Congress would have exclusive legislative authority over the capital, which is outlined in Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 of the Constitution.
The framers of the Constitution aimed to create a neutral ground for the federal government, ensuring that no state could dominate the national political landscape.

That is what they chose to do when they took up residence in the Federal City of the District of Columbia.
They can vote for municipal authorities and the president, but shall not have representation in Congress, or Senate according to the Constitution.
They can always move to Maryland or Virginia,
DC has its own progressive individual income tax with rates from 4% to 10.75% depending on income
DC also has a 6% sales tax (same as Maryland) and a 0.61% effective property tax on owner-occupied housing.

Eleanor Norton
Nope!

She is a non voting delegate. The citizens in DC have no elected representatives and no elected senators that they choose to represent them with voting power as their voice.

That just seems so unfair, and wrong!

I would hate it if I was stuck living there!

Don’t like it, move is not how our rights work

They also chose to pay more in taxes than 20 states.
Congress gets to control what they can and cannot do, yet they cannot vote for members of Congress

How does having two Senators and a Congressman exert undue influence?

With less than 600,000 residents, how does Wyoming have so much influence?

Yoh didn’t ask if she had a vote or not

The citicnes or DC don’t get a vote cause it’s a federal district not a state

Seems fair and right to me. The US Constitution literally spells it out. It’s a choice those people are making. They could live in VA or MD but decided not to

Frankly it’s unfair and wrong we even give the electoral votes in the Presidential election

It is a good thing. One hopes that it is a lot of government employees who lost their jobs.

It is a misperception that the wealth in DC is bureaucrats with high salaries and two-income households. But the real money is those who provide consultation, services, legal advice and so forth to the government, many of whom are retirees, ex military, and people like that. Formerly called, "Beltway Bandits." Those are the ones who really make a killing.

A high unemployment rate in the District is a good sign.
Or, the overpaid government employees retire with a generous pension, and then contract back doing the same work for more than twice the pay. I personally know four people doing this:

1. Just bought a house for more than 1 million dollars. (He’s never been married, so all based on his government take.)

2. Is contracting back just two days a week, but her income between her pension and consulting is three times what she had been earning as a govt employee.

3. Clearing $500,000 a year.

4. is currently on a 3-month cruise. With internet, he continues to “work” and bill the government.

Nobody is stuck living there. They can always move a few miles out to Maryland or Virginia.

You could say the same thing about people being denied their Civil Rights
Don’t like it, MOVE

Our rights as citizens don’t work like that

Another demklan SPLC donor trying to white wash the horrible history of his demklan and downplay the horrors of the civil rights movement by comparing it to having a federal district for the federal govt

Pathetic

The people who live in DC are not denied their civil rights.

They choose to live in a federal district and not a state. The Constitution grants voting reps to states only.

The high unemployment rate also explains why almost twice as many DC residents are in food stamps than Americans as a whole.

Are you crazy? Easy Peasy to just move if you are poor and you just don't like it, eh? These peop!e have lived in D.C. for generations....over 100 years and some families since before the civil war and even before DC was built.....it is their home.

Why do you think it is fair to not have representation via congressmen and Senators.

Is your ONLY reason of saying they should not get a vote ...because they would vote for your opposition party? That seems so selfish.....

D.C. was purposely set up to be a federal area. If the Founding Fathers had wished for it to be a state they would have done so at the time.

They pay higher taxes than 20 states and yet don’t get to vote on how that money is spent

Oh well.
Don't live there then.
This is yet another blatant attempt to rig the game for the Democrats. Nothing more.
They haven't had representation for over 200 years.

They never envisioned 700,000 people living in that district

If those 700,000 people are not allowed to vote for those who are spending their tax dollars, they should be exempt from paying Federal Taxes

I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. Better than creating another Democrat Cheating Center.
