Big Boy Restaurants

They had Bob's Big Boys in Las Cruces, NM when I was a kid and I saw Frisch's Big Boys in Indianapolis in the late 60s, but the last Big Boy I saw was short lived in Modesto, CA. There is an old Big Boy statue at a coffee drive thru in Spirit Lake, ID, but it isn't a Big Boy restaurant.

There aren't very many left. The one near my folks' old house closed years ago.

In the 60's we used to cruise Bob's Big Boy Drive-in and race each other on Van Nuys Blvd. Lots of fun!

Haven't seen one in years.
The one we used to have is now a pretty good Mexican restaurant.

I stopped recently at a Big Boy restaurant and enjoyed the Big Boy Combo. This was really delicious and I don't get the opportunity to eat there very often. If anyone has ever eaten there tell me what you think of their food.

Their still around? I would eat at one not to far from Ft. Meyer VA., every once in while. Good burgers.

I haven't been to one of them places in 20 years if not longer. I've never seen one here in east TN, but there was at least one in northern KY where I used to live. I haven't been up there since 2006.

God bless you always!!!

I haven't been there before but looks yummy. 😋

Maybe it's the truth, little boy.

But, I doubt you would know the truth, anyways.

Ooh touchy!

I haven't eaten at a Big Boy for at least 55 years---not many in this neck of the woods. As I recall, they were a pretty good chain. Probably comparable to a Red Robin, Appleby's or Ruby Tuesday.

I can't stand Applebee's. My friends and family and I call it Crapplebee's. 😂

When I was a kid in Houston, we had a Kips Big Boy that we would go to sometimes. It was a licensee, rather than a franchisee a Bob’s big boy. We just called it kips, but it had the statue of the big boy in front.

I don’t know if the food was different from a Bob’s, but for us, it was a Once or twice a year treat to go there instead of Burger King. Especially when we got to go for breakfast.

I am not a fan either. Same for Red Robin and Ruby Tuesday's. Too trendy for my tastes. Big Boy's were more car hoppy in the 60s but the last one I saw was a sit down place. They were pretty good, kind of an upscale drive in. Frisch's grew from Bob's.

They were the original Big Mac... because that is essentially what it is.
The Big Boy was developed in the 1930s - McDonalds unapologetically copied it with the Big Mac in the 1960s

The big Mac came around after Jack in the Box abandoned their Bonus Jack which was an identical copy of the Big Mac. Prior to that, the McDouble burger was known in the stores as a big mac.

The Bonus Jack is a hamburger sold by the fast-food restaurant chain Jack in the Box. It was one of the company's signature products. The Bonus Jack was first offered in 1970 to compete with McDonald's Big Mac[2] and was discontinued in the early 1980s.

The last time I ate at Kipp's Big Boy my step-mom worked there in 1969, she passed in 2021 my dad in 2023.

The Bonus Jack was first released in the mid-1960s, where it was the first double-decker burger in the fast food industry.[1] It was replaced by the Jumbo Jack in 1971 to compete with the trend of quarter-pound hamburgers.[1] It has since been reintroduced to the menu at various times throughout the years.

Back in the day, big boy had the curbside service where girls would bring your meals out to your car.

Those WERE the days.
