Correct, Trump had the money, but didn't pay. Cohen paid and it was on him. He committed a felony (actually two IIRC) by illegally donating an in-kind contribution to Trump's campaign. Was charged and convicted of it.

Trump falsified the business records the next year to pay off Cohen and that was on him.

Here is the funny thing. Trump could have paid up front and been perfectly legal as there is no crime in having an NDA. The crimes were financial in trying to hide it. If Trump had drawn the money from personal accounts, instead of trying to launder it through his personal fixer lawyer and his business, cut a certified check the the porn star he boinked - he would have been fine. While Trump can make unlimited donations to support his own campaign, he still had to report it on campaign financials. However, it was so late in the campaign that there wouldn't be any more reports prior to the election. He would have been home free.



Daniels didn't extort anyone, that's just a fevered dream of Trump supporters. She didn't go to Trump, she didn't even go to the campaign. She went to the media to sell her story. No extortion. The campaign heard about the sale (through Pecker) when, after being stiffed by Trump on the McDougal story refused to pay for another one. So it was the campaign through Cohen that "fixed" the porn star problem because they were in panic mode about another sex scandal. Remember this is just a couple of weeks after the famous "Grab'em by the Pussy" tape came out.

Never said they did. Contributing to a campaign, even via a loan that was paid back later, isn't payment for services. It's reimbursement of expenses. But that isn't how it was invoiced the next year as part of the money laundering conspiracy to hide the criminal payment. After FPOTUS45 was in office the plan was for Cohen to invoice the Trump business entity (Trump Organization) for a retainer that didn't exist for services that didn't happen.

Now If Cohen had submitted a bill to Trump personally, and Trump took the money out of personal accounts and paid the bill? He wouldn't have been in violation of New York business law because the payment wouldn't have been laundered through the Trump Organization (a business). It would have been paid out of personal funds outside the business.

As someone once said, it's not the crime that gets you, it's the coverup.

I do not support his buy student votes. Some of us paid our own way, not taking on debt, and raised our kids to make better decisions, than taking on huge debt, when with hard work and superior grades, scholarships abound and working while going to college for a real education in fields useful and in demand in the job market, while graduating debt free is the real way to go. Nobody has ever forgiven any of our debts. But, it is what it is, and Joe is no longer in the running.
