FBI Director Kash Patel accused the FBI of lying to obtain surveillance warrants to illegally spy on President Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign and subsequent first term.

"It took me two years of my life to prove the following: that a political party in the United States of America in the 21st century would go overseas and hire some bogus intelligence asset to manufacture fraudulent, fake, unverified information, funnel that to not just the intelligence community, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation," he said.

"And then take those packaged lies that they had paid for with campaign finance funds and go into a secret surveillance court and illegally spy on your opponent to be the president of the United States."

Everybody that cares to know that already knows it, long since. Those who prefer to turn a blind eye are not going to suddenly take an interest. So why put this out now?

My guess is that Patel is planning to get warrants to spy on the Obamas and the Clintons. In fact, he may have already legally bugged their phones and homes ahead of making this announcement, hoping this announcement would prompt conversations about this topic from which he could gather evidence.

Or it may have been a simple as Hannity asked the question because he's always been interested in the criminal activities of the Democrats in relation to Trump.

Either way, again, those who care already know. Those who don't care about our intelligence and law enforcement agencies being used as the Clinton campaign did will continue to pretend they don't know.

I imagine there were some underhanded and even illegal things done. The thing is Kash is totally incompetent in doing anything about it.

The geniuses of Team Autopen are a hard act to follow, compentency-wise. Look how well they did prepping sleepy joe for his final debate.

But Patel has a good team also, now that they've culled out the Trump-hating activists. They'll do a'ight.

Actually Kash is just "following orders". Knowing that any crimes committed more than 10 years ago (short of murder) are time barred from prosecution.
Trump 45 had the chance to prosecute, and failed.
Now it's too late. Just look at all the failed Trump 47 indictments and indictment attempts.

The blob’s 2016 campaign coordinated actions with Russian intel. This was proven by a Senate panel as well as the Mueller report.

Kash is doing what Trump wants. An investigation.
Just like Trump tried to blackmail President Zelenskyy into opening up an investigation of Hunter Biden.

Interesting point. it turns out the statute of limitations for federal official misconduct is five years.

But . . . for conspiracy, the five year clock doesn't start and to the last overt.Act in furtherance of the conspiracy is completed. if patel's f b I taps their phones or sends in a spy of some sort, they will likely gather evidence of a much more recent, overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy, or at least in the cover up.

Trump's mistake in his first term was not sufficiently cleaning house at the d o j and f b I.

For those who question patel's competence and experience for his job, keep in mind that trump's first requirement had to be that they were not democrat operatives, pretending to be crime fighters.

So Trump hired a republican operative, pretending to be a crime fighter.

Using the Federal Government to spy on political dissidents is just plain wrong.

Punishing the perps will prevent it from happening again, and will save the taxpayers when they have their pensions revoked.

I think they're working on seditious conspiracy charges eventually ...

It's probably a statute of limitations thing. Democrats are professionals at committing crimes and then running the clock out on the prosecution. In 2015-16, there should have been 50 deep state liberals thrown in prison. Hillary and Biden belong in jail. But the only thing that will end up going to jail is the autopen. And of course, the next Democrat President, God forbid, will then pardon the autopen.
