There is such a simple solution to all this. What this country needs is a national consumption tax. Let's say 10 cents on the dollar.
The new consumption tax will be used to pay off deficit spending, and if anything left over, goes to the national debt.
Now, if they want to spend hundreds of billions on the climate farce, fine. We raise the consumption tax to 15 cents on the dollar. College debt forgiveness, add another 2 cents to make it 17 cents on the dollar. Funding the Ukraine war, another two cents.
Any deficit spending not covered by the new 10 cent consumption tax increases the tax. Everybody has a dog in the race.
The way we do things now, our reps spend hundreds of billions of dollars on garbage, putting us further and further in debt, but few care because they will never have to pay for it directly or indirectly.
If we had to pay for all this spending when it takes place, you'd see how satisfied people would be with the environment and letting kids pay for their own college. A perfect solution to our spending problem. And if you don't want your consumption tax increased, choose who you vote for carefully.
Rand Paul puts out an annual report of just some of the wasteful spending. Everybody should read it.
Among Paul’s instances of waste were several health studies, including more than $36 million spent on studying why stress makes hair turn gray.
