In 1953, a democratically elected parliament deposed the Shah, and the US staged a coup to put him back into power.
In 1979, the Iranian people overthrew the Shah.
Now, this Iran is one that is being victimized by great powers...

So since 1979. Iran had to fend off an invasion by Iraq. An invasion that violated international law but most of the world turned a blind eye to. The US even let Iraq get away with blowing up one of our ships, the USS Stark. We did however, shoot down a plane load of innocent civilians after we crossed into Iranian waters.

The US invaded Iraq, and the Iranians backed their fellow Shi'ites because we didn't send enough troops in to secure the country. Not seeing how they are the 'not peaceful ones" there. The Sunnis Petreaus bribed and armed to keep order long enough for us to leave reorganized into ISIS, and Iran carried most of the weight of fighting them.

The Naftiran Intertrade Company was hit with secondary sanctions in January 2020 for “engaging in transactions involving Iran’s petroleum sector.” The Treasury Department said those transactions helped to “finance Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps – Qods Force (IRGC-QF) and its terrorist proxies.” ​

The IRGC is a designated terrorist organization.
