Biden DOJ Sides with Porn Industry's Lawsuit Against Texas's Age Verification Law

Schools already have filters on their networks, unless they’re completely incompetent.

I guess it is Texas, where the bar is extremely low.
My grandson easily circumvented those filters at school. The state was in control and provided the internet access, not his parents. In fact, it was impossible for his parents to do anything in the situation, the state had responsibility, which we are hearing in this thread should not happen.

Yet the laws still apply to children where you come from. They can't buy tobacco or alcohol, even though they can still get and consume those products if they want to. They can't get a tattoo by themselves, they can't vote. There are a lot of things they are restricted from doing because they are considered to be too young.
The problem with this analogy is that these laws aren't about the buying and selling of porn. It's about regulating people's right to free association. These laws are more akin to making a group of consenting swinger's at their 18 and over party baby sit your child because you can't be bothered to.

And he’ll easily circumvent any other restriction the law puts in place.

The only thing this accomplishes is invading everyone’s privacy for no apparent benefit.

A child can legally walk into an adult movie theater and consume their product? I would have to wonder about that.

Yep. Exact same thing.

There are sex shops all over Florida. I guess a 10 year old can go in and buy a dildo and a porn DVD just like it is a candy bar.

I can actually see the objection to requiring proof of age for this. It's like a registration process, sort of like guns. The government wants your ID and for you to be on a registration list. I'm pretty sure the right would be against a registration list for everyone who owns guns, and, you have to be a certain age to buy a gun, meaning that the government could require you to be in a registration data base whenever you buy guns or ammo. While it's a good idea to not let minors buy guns, like minors viewing porn, I don't think we want the government having a registration list of everyone viewing porn or buying a gun.

There has to be something better than a required registration process, but right now I am not coming up with anything.

I understand the desire for something like this, but the problem is one of implementation that doesn't overly burden people accessing this stuff legally.

Not the same thing at all. This isn't about commerce.

You first, I asked first.

I answered your questions. You didn't answer mine as to why you thought you should disagree with me while actually agreeing with me.

Or maybe taking your kid to day care and the caregiver holding an orgy during nap time?

Okay, an absolutist view of the 1st Amendment would hold that the state cannot prevent the KKK from holding a rally on the steps of a school building when kids are in class. Consider this, however, we restrict and regulate the advertising of certain products which clearly violates that view. It is axiomatic, therefore, that the state can also restrict and regulate children's access to the pron industry's products.
